Whats up guys, i'm kind of confused on how a throttle body works, so i just want to get this straight. When the air reaches the throttle body, coolant is added, and the throttle body works with the gas pedal correct? So when you floor it that thing in the middle gets smaller? And the MAF tells it to inject more fuel according to how much air is flowing? I'm kind of confused where the coolant enters? If I get a plate to block the coolant from getting in, won't that hurt performance? Can someone please explain to me how it would work, and help performance, and where exactly can I buy or get a plate to do this? Thank You
Here's my understanding of a throttle body. Your right, it is connected to your gas pedal. When the pedal is depressed the "butterfly" plates open up more to allow more air into the intake. Some throttle bodies mix the fuel right when the air enters it (like the tbi in some 3rd gen f-bodies) but on our cars there are separate injectors for each cylinder. Im not as knowledgeable about the MAF but I think your right that the more air it takes in the more fuel it tells the computer to put out. If you have the 3.8 engine use this link here to find out how to make a throttle body spacer and coolant bypass. Just dont cut out the coolant line in your spacer. The bad thing about the coolant going through the throttle body (I think) is that the coolant is hot instead of cold. This helps your car start up on extremely cold days. Hot air = bad performance. I think this information is correct. Can someone confirm it for me?? Hope it helped.
