  • Magnaflow exhaust

I want to put dual exhaust on my car. A local auto shop said they could put either Flowmaster or Magnaflow for about the same price. I don't want true duals, just cat-back. I was leaning towards the Magnaflow because in their catalog there is actually a 3.8 Firebird/Camaro listing, whereas Flowmaster only offers the 40 or 80 Series as a genereal listing. The shop recommened the Magnaflow. What do you guys think? I want a more aggressive sound from my car than stock, but I don't want to be heard from a few miles away haha. So is Magnaflow my better choice, cuz I get the impression that Flowmaster is more loud. The shop told me they would put duals on for about $350 parts and labor for either brand, does that sound right to you guys? Thanks for any input.

Magnaflow is stainless steel, so it won't rust. The cat-back Flowmaster system is called American Thunder and they do have an application for the Fbody.

$350 installed is a great deal for the Magnaflow but seems only average or maybe even a little high for the Flowmaster system.

My Magnaflow on my 3.4 sounds good to me.

Magnaflow is a much better buy since it is an all-stailess steel setup. cant vouch for the cat-back alone, but with headers it sounds pretty good.

I have the magnaflow catback and love it. I would choose magnaflow before flowmaster.

I have the Magnaflow cat back with a Magnaflow hi flow catalytic converter, listen to my clips here http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/649794/4

Very happy with the sound its got a mellow tone to it and the fit and finish is uncompareable.

Question for you, you said at 3k rpm on you site that it gets raspy, is that underload or just when you are in neutral reving it?

You really need to listen to it; I have a clip of what it sounds like up to 4K under load. I don't think I should have used "rasp" as a way to describe it... I should have just used "crap" it sounds like an import up above 3K like any V6 exhaust. I don't care what any one tells you... an exhaust on a V6 sounds like garbage it will never sound godly and throaty like a V8. But under 2K and idle you will find a nice mellow tone which is really what I was looking for. I will say it sounds better under load then in neutral.

I've heard both systems in person, and the magnaflow seems to be made of better quality and maybe have better performance gains.. but the flowmaster sounds a hell of a lot better. Just the tone of it is different. The magnaflow seems to sound a bit more ricey, to where as the flowmaster immitates the V8 sound better under load.

my flows sound good too and I just have the muffler not the catback but I like the sound for now until I do get my complete exhaust makeover. I plan to get headers a y pipe a high flow cat and then a nice catback eventually. When I do this I plan to get it all installed at one time
