This is not brain surgery. Look at Dominic's posts. All you need is the little scissors on a Swiss Army knife to gently pull out the retaining ring/clip and you're done.

Three minutes tops from the time you pull the hood release to the time you close the hood.

Here is Dominic's definitive guide to damage-free MAF screen removal. He also suggests you do it when the engine is warm so the MAF screen is not tightly seated in the throttle body.

      Quote from Dominic / Cardinal:
"You do not cut it out - it has a circular spring which is squeezing a small rail inside the throttle body - think of an expansion O-ring spring.
You need to take the spring where it has two holes at the bottom and squeeze it together and gently pull it out. Then gently pull out the MAF screen and you're done."
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

Everybody has taken this out anyways to clean the throtle body right? I did this like a month ago with only messing up one of the little wholes going through it. I just recently removed my MAF screen to see if it helps any at the track. Haven't had any problems with it yet, idles fine.

            for the love of god...

If you're willing to buy a new screen, then give it a try. If you have any dought about it don't worry about it.

I'm about ready to bring out Toto on this.

I loved the maf mod. it sounded deeper and i got better throttle response and a little more power throughout the powerband. just remember, and intake mods you do lower your torque's peaking rpm. it won't lower torque, but the rpm for max toque will be lower in the powerband. if you do exhaust w/o intake, the torque peak will move up the powerband. Just a little side info there.

i have a 97....removed the MAF Screen (aka air foil)....

it didnt change a thing, it is NOT detrimental to the performance. its just a little folklore that people like the talk about.

besides, if you happen to plan on hooking up n20 in your car....the MAF screen needs to be removed anyway =)

Taking mine out took about 30 seconds, using a screw driver, with a couple of minor blemishes on the screen.

well guys, i look at it like this.
it's okay on the 99+ models, with the whisper lid or !air silencer. why? because airflow is straight and smooth. this is what the maf screen is designed for. if you look at 2001 plus V8 Fbods and 2001+ Z06 models, you'll see they don't have a maf screen. this is because the airflow is straight enough. I experimented with the maf screen out, then back in. I actually felt a midrange difference right off the back. It actually felt like 4th gear in the 35-50 mph range would slightly stumble.
it's a good mod if you have very straight airflow. if not, then leave the MAF screen in, as it provides the straight airflow you need.
