My son just bought a 98 Camaro, silver 3.8 (wanna buy a 87 Monte SS Aerocoupe?) We just converted it to a flowmaster 80 single stock pipe in ,dual 2.5 inch out(bow tie tips),whisper lid with k&n.Is there anything else you guys or girls would do without going totaly nuts? Thanks for helping a new member! ;)
There's always the CAI mods you can do, usually between $129-170, depending on which one you get. And you'll be able to use it with the lid to add some horses.
If I'm not mistaken you have the muffler on stock pipe? I don't have the item numbers but summitracing.com has a larger I-pipe 2 1/2", changing that will be as good as a catback.
There's always a highflow cat, and gears.
You can also always go for a supercharger, but I wouldn't call that going nuts ;)
If his car didn't come with the Y87 performance package, I would definitely put 3.42 gears on it. That will make a really nice difference in acceleration and won't be going nuts at all. Good luck to him!
3.73 gears, 3000+ convertor, CAM, aluminum driveshaft, 160* T-stat, port/polish the TB, headers, raise the airbox by placing washers under the bolts (6-8 on each), Corvette servo, Transgo shift kit, Seafoam that sucker! YELLOW STICKERS AND NAAAAWWWS! ;)
For WEIGHT REDUCTIONS remove:
rear seats top & bottom
rear seatbelt assemblys
spare tire & jack
front and rear bumper supports
rear interior hatch flap
GOOD LUCK!

Is there more of a sotp feeling with that than the Whisper LId, because I didn't notice anything with the lid (and yes it's connected properly ) , other than a slight change in tone.
I did exhaust -> whisper lid -> SLP CAI. Hands down I had the most fun after the CAI. At speed the car would actually jump with throttle response, that was cool
have ur son get a job, and let him pay for the mods that get him Horsepower and Torque, and u pay for the rest of the stuff, at a reasonable pace of course. rest of the stuff means suspension, body work, rims, maybe tires unless he burns them up, and if he does then he can buy them. drivetrain(differential, gears, driveshaft, torque converter or clutch/flywheel), interior, and brakes. I can tell u now that he'll like having power, but when u can really stick the suspension and make it fly off the line w/o spining the tires, or taking corners quick w/o spining out, he'll love it, plus it'll make the car safer to drive, and all parents want that.

Hey sac2165,
Thanks for the idea about the SLP Ram Air. I think I will get that next. Did that make your car run any hotter? I also checked out your web site. Looks Great. I see you have the Hypertech PP3. How has that been to run? Did you see much gain? I just ordered one and was curious about how you like yours.
Thanks

Hypertech claims 12 HP, and I felt a decent SOTP improvement. I think the best advantage of the HPP3 is all the options you can tinker with. Before ordering, you may want to check this thread regarding some members' disappointment.
As for the SLP CAI making the car run hotter, I really have'nt noticed a difference in temperature.
Thanks for everyones input his car does not have the y87 but cai sounds like the next addition. My son does have a job and is paying for the mods (i slip him a few $$$$$now and then)srtipes and rims will probably follow as soon as he sells his 87 SS Aerocoupe ($3000 CAN GO ALONG WAY)
