Last year I put a 80 series flowmaster on my 97 pretty much stock camaro without changing pipes, cat, intake or anything. I got single inlet, dual outlet. Now grant it, it does sound a lot better than before, i'm looking for a mean mean american muscle tone and I want to know what I would need to do to get that. Also I don't want to change my headers, i'm thinking cat and cat-back but not really sure.. I guess I want this thing to be as loud as possible without losing all the pressure, and while still being a job my exhaust shop can take care of alone. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

The ONLY way to get that mean mean American muscle tone is to ditch the 6-banger and get a muscle car. Otherwise, you are going to get the pissed off weedeater sound up high and a decent tone down low. I have changed my exhaust 6 times and I'm still not happy. The loudest I have had it was complete open pipes with no cat, and it was waaay too loud to drive around, and THAT even sounded like crap up high. Good luck.<br /><br /> <a href=\"http://www.cardomain.com/id/nitroxxx28\" target=\"_blank\">http://www.cardomain.com/id/nitroxxx28</a>

From what I hear from a lot of people on this board as far as volume (which is what I need as well) they recommend a Catco high flow cat. I have the same muffler but I got a 2.5" i pipe installed. It is waaaay to quiet for me as well so I'll tell you when I get the catco installed. which reminds me, should I get the 3" cat or just get the 2.5" in/out? will one be louder than the other?\'96 M5 Camaro White<br />Flowmaster Full Catback<br />SLP CAI<br />180* Thermo<br /><br />Stereo: H/U - Clarion DXZ725 <br />Alipne Type-R 6.5 Components (front), <br />Alpine Alpine SPS-1629S 6.5 <br />2 10\" JL 10w0<br /><br />\"One Love\" -Bob Marley

I've heard a no cat with a resonator in the i pipe and a Triflo catback. It was the best sounding v6 I have ever heard. I plan on replacing my headers soon and was going to see about getting rid of the cat and maybe putting a resonator in the i pipe.<a href=\"http://www.onid.orst.edu/~waltejam/\" target=\"_blank\">98 Bright Red Camaro</a><br />Too many mods to list....check my website

I run the new 3.8 system from flowmaster and it sounds awesome!
I also have a dynomax bullet muffler in place of the cat. I live in MI and we don't have emissions testing HEHE.
Sounds very deep and throaty. Very V8 sounding even at 3500/rpm. If you can't do the cat replacement then I would reccomend the high flow catco cat. That's what shortdog runs and he says it works great!\"I\'m going to torment you beyond the end of time, and hit you with a steamroller!\"

you WILL NOT ACHIEVE your goal of AMERICAN MUSCLE SOUND with a 6 cylinder.
its a fact that everyone needs to get over.
the truth hurts sometimes.. but i think my exhaust sounds pretty good for a v696 Camaro M5. Your first wrong step was using a Flowmaster 80 series - one that is purposely designed to be quieter than the 40 series (what you should have gotten). Especailly if you wanted a deep, powerful exhaust sound (notice I did not say V8).
If you want deep and powerful from small displacment then you have to go aggressive...
Headers,
3" mandrel tubing,
High-flow Cat. Conv.,
and an aggressive muffler.<b>15.41</b> @ 89.80 & 15.45 @ <b>91.64</b>, 2.21 60ft, 3,440 raceweight, using <b>OEM</b> Equipment. <br />\'98 L67/M49 w/ 134,000 miles before spun bearing. \"<i>It\'s all stock, Baby</i>!\"

I'm surprised no one mentioned a cutout.
I had an American Thunder Flowmaster on my v6 also. I LOVED it, but one day i decided i wanted a cutout. Best day ever. (Well besides the day i put it on the formula :D )
I think it sounded GREAT driving in the city. Everytime i fired it up people would look. In the upper RPMs it sounded pretty cruddy. But i didnt really get that high in the city. But everything up to about 3500 sounded SWEET. Only ran me a total of $65 (thats the cutout and install) Try it out, worst thing u would do is lose the $65. You dont like it, cap it up and get another exhaust.
But you will NEVER sound as loud as an ol V8.
Good luck.
