  • Just clearned my throttle body...

I bought a can of CRC "Air-Intake Cleaner" at Pep Boys for around $10 and took off my MAF screen (very easy) and sprayed a good amount into the throttle body while the car was off. I didn't notice that much dirt coming out of the intake (I had it parked with my nose facing downward so the dirt and oil did not go into my intake). I told my brother to floor the pedal (car was still off) and I got a CD and a flashlight so I could see the butterfly inside the throttle body and I sprayed the cleaner directly onto the butterfly... good lord, that's when I saw the black mississippi run out of my car!

After I let the firt run out of the throttle body for a little bit (2 min or so), I wiped the inside out with a paper towel and started my car up. I sprayed some more into the throttle body with the car on and had to give it gas with my right hand so the engine wouldn't choke.

I just took a test drive and my throttle feels 2 times better! I can't believe it. I have never cleaned the throttle body (124k miles). Good things, good things.

generaly there are 2 kinds. injector flush and top engine flush. Top engine is done 1 of 2 ways. either a drip hooked up to the booster vac line and runs through the intake plenum or a pressurized nossle is hooked to the throttle body and sends cleaners through that way. Expect aprox 50 bucks for that. a really good injector clean will flush the injectors and let teh cleaner sit on the pistion tops and combustion chamber and then the motor is run on cleaner only. Expect 75-100 for that.

I have heard about you can clean the throttle body, but It never can to my mind. I was thinking every 50k miles but since it was mentioned every 20k. I have 27k so I better get to it/ What company did you use

i wonder if i can use b12 to do that...i used it to clean off the front of it, but not with the car running. I wonder if it would hurt it while running.

I did mine a couple of months back at 145k lol. Although I didn't clean the back of the plate since I was by myself and it's got drive-by-wire.
There was a difference, though not a huge one.
When the weather clears up, I will do it again, but this time clean the back of it.

sea foam is basicly crap... It works somewhat but just as well as any solvent would when it is used in the mannor that it normaly is.. Flushes and top end cleans cost a lot. But there is a reason. Because they work.
