  • Got the bird up to 120MPH Sunday

Before I did my exhaust mods, my car would only go up to about 110 and then my revs would start going up and down. Now after installing my highflow cat, S and I pipes, it reached 120mph at about 4rpms. It didn't shut off or anything, but it wouldn't go any faster neither. Could it be the extra mods helping it get to that limit?? Breathing better??

I run 3000rpms at 90mph, which works out to 1000 rpms per 30mph. So that would be right at 4000rpms for 120mph, in an automatic with 3.42's (a '98).

118 is tops on mine so far...

nice~ I have a '96 bird, 3.42 gear and auto. I thought there's a governor at 118mph? How did you get rid of it? And how would i get rid of it for my car?

My 1995 3.4 easily climbs to that magic 110mph speed limiter and can cruise there in OD with very little foot on the gas. Does the 3.4 have better top end HP then the 3.8????

Mine would do 118 bone stock, yours should of too. Mine did seem to hit 120 once, but it leveled off to 118.

If you are looking for more top end you should consider more things than just horsepower. Weight, lift, drag, downforce, frontal area, gearing, tire diameter, ect. The faster you go, the more important those things are if you want to stay on the ground. I say remove the speed limiter and have at it for the top speed record in a v6. We should get something like that going since we have admired acceleration, handling, ect. Maybe we should start up a top speed board or something. Just a thought.

Nope....the 3.4's top-end runs out around 4600rpm, whereas the 3.8's runs up to around 5200rpm.

Yup, 120mph is easily accomplished after a few breathing mods... My car slams into the 120mph mark so hard that it actually makes it to the mark before backing down to 118 :D

k.. I don't know whether the previous owner did something with the car I have now, if so it's nothing visible such as a CAI, but I reach 110 in 4th easily... so far in 5th I went to and above the 120 mark on my speedometer.. Anyone have a clue as to what's going on?
