here are some thoughts on the spacer. I was asked my opion on it and I will give it here as well for evryone to ponder.

Heat is an enemy of an incoming air charge. the main sorce of heat is of course from the engine. In order to maintain dense incoming air you need to keep it cool. We all knw that teh cool dence incoming air will alow for more power because there is simply more air there to be combusted. As a princable of thermal transfer if the spacer is made from a good composit non thermal conductive material you could do extreamly well with it. By keepin the throttle body cooler your giving the incoming air charge more of a chance of reaching the combustion chambers cooler. So in this aspect the mod is right on and a damn good idea.

          The downside.
The problem is something that must be considered as well. When you increese the air path length and increes pelenum volume you can hurt lowend -mid performance. This is much like people who add a much larger throttle body then the motor needs. ZZ states that the spacer is 3/4 of an inch thick. It's probably that thick in order to help keep heat contact from ransfering a short distence. 3/4 of an inch is not a whole lot. And I like it better then if it was a full inch. But for both a thermal and performance standpoint you would wan't teh spacer to block as much heat as possible while being as thin as possible.

All in all I would give this mod a thumbs up. but there could be a drcrees in low end performance to keep in mind.

I'm fairly sure those are designed to help your top end, at the expense of a little low end torque...just like he said. ;)

I would love to see a link. Extended intake runners would safrifce a little low end. You would tend to shift your power band up a little. But if it's also a composit non thermal conductive material it could outweight the cons and sevearly decreese the temp of the incoming air charge.

The only ones that I know of that are available are for the FWD 3.8L. It uses a different upper intake and the intake runners don't line up correctly.

Whats intriguing is that they made a firebird formula with a 3800 series II engine according to cheetah.
I wanted to try this along time ago, Ill probably do it when I install the rebuilt engine for the turbo. Is that guy still on these boards? Did he ever install it?

yeah, I would like to see a 3.8 firebird formula as well..

I am still reseaching. I am not convinced that this would do any good.. But on the other hand if I am wrong about one of my throries then it might be good. I just need more time to get a few things stright.
