  • Ravin Exhaust

Ok i did a search and found some posts but I need some more opinions.
I went to midas and they showed me a ravin muffler. In there pamphlet it says they have much more air flow and outperform Flowmaster and Super Turbo Dynomax. They also say the Ravin gets rid of the high frequency sounds and creates a deeper sound. The class of the muffler is "Z-55"
The guy at midas qouted me at around $300 for the muffler, pipes from the cat back and installation. The Muffler alone is $130. I not sure what to get, and am confused. I want to get the deepest sound without the high pitch ricy sound. What do you think? Does anyone own a Ravin exhaust. If so how do you like it and would you reccomend it. Any opinions would help.

    Thanks

I have had a Ravin for about 2 weeks and like it very much. It does have a deep, growly sound, but isn't as loud as others I have heard. It doesn't have the high pitch, ricey sound at all. You can hear it from the inside, but it isn't so loud that you have to crank up the tunes full blast to hear them! Mine cost me $125 installed at Midas.
I do notice an improvement in acceleration. I should be getting my Whisper lid and K&N filter this week, which should help the sound also along with the free ram air.....

for LESS THAN HALF you could get the dynomax and just run the piss outta it til it breaks in. Mine sounds pretty mean and when i need a new one im going with the Dynomax Super turbo...AGAIN. I had a flowmaster and it sounded like crap compared to the dynomax.A kid my G/f knows has a Mustang with a ravin muffler and its NOWHERE NEAR as loud and nice sounding as the DYnomax. I realize its a Mustang but its just an example. I picked up my Dynomax for 40 bucks NEW at Autozone.

I've had mine for close to two years now and I like it a lot. I have the Z-33 class muffler and like the deep sound. I definantly recommend it. If you get it either get the 2.5" catback or the 3". I have the 3 inch one.

i guess my roomate got a dud muffler from dynomax then, hes drove the hell out of it breaking it in and it still sounds ricey to me, when its idling it doesnt growl or rumbling, it just sits there and hums like my friends eclipse gs-t
i dont care how bad people say flowmasters are i still will not trade mine in for dynomax...

I have had my Ravin 55 series for about a year and I'm really happy with it. I have the 2.5" dual pipes.

The only problem I had was during the first installation, I guess the tech wrenched on it good because he didnt' line up the pipes properly and it looked off-center. Turns out with all his wailing on it, he loosedened a baffle inside and after about 7 months, it came loose and i needed to replace the muffler. Ever since then though it's been great.

Oh, almost forgot, it will still sound a bit raspy at 3000+ rpm unless you do CAI and high flow cat w/ 3" I pipe back to the muffler(IMO).

Those are my next mods as soon as the snow clears. Don't get me wrong it sounds like a mean 6, but you can only get so much rumble out of a v6.

                Good luck.

What about the Borla cat-back exhaust system. Would anyone reccomend it. Does it sound like a v8 or is dynomax and ravin better?

Sure, you would have a top-quality exhaust on your car..but I heard it sounds like as$ on a 6. For half the price you can get either Raven or Dynomax.

This is my set up and their is NO ricy/Raspy sound at all at any rpm, and even when letting off the gas at a high rpm their is no ricy sound.

                      - 2.75" custom bent S-pipe
                      - LS1 I-pipe
                      - Flowmaster 80 series
                      - and resonated tips

Sounds very nice, no to loud at driving speeds, but once you get on it it sounds like a tuned v6, it kinda sounds like what a ferarri at WOT.

Anyone who says Flowmaster sounds ricey, they never gave it a chance to burn up. I compared my Camaro to someone elses Camaro that had a Dynomax. His didn't have a rumble and it wasn't nearly as loud. I've had my 80 series Flowmaster for over a year, its still getting deeper. Yes Flowmaster doesn't sound great the second when you get it, but it beats everything else after months of burning. Many people came up to me at gas stations ask me how I got my Z28 roaring. Even the guy with Dynomax. He switched over to Flowmaster and loves it more.

I have a flowmaster with the stock I pipe and a 2.5 inch high flow cat, my car sounds mean as all hell when it's at an Idle, It sounds mean when you are on the gas. It doesn't sound too bad when you let off as long as the car is warmed up. It sounds like S#it when it is cold But I have come to like that raspy pow type sound in between shifts, oh yea auto's always sound cleaner to me. But people are always like what the hell did you do to that motor it sounds friggin psycho!! I am pretty happy with mine, but I think I am going to get a 2.5in. I pipe and an hooker aerochamber muffler. Then we'll see how it sounds??!!? Flowmasters still kick *** hard core

I second the flowmaster. They said good after they burn in, I can't wait to hear it with full pipes and a high flow cat soon.
I would not buy a ravin, simply because of the name. More cars win races with flowmasters than with midas performance products. Just buy a catback rather than have him bend you the pipes, you'll be better off with a flow or dynomax catback.

The exhaust setup I'm looking at is cia headers, random tech. 3" cat, and slp loudmouth exhaust for the z28. The reason fot the loudmouth is that it only has a resonator in the I-pipe to restrict flow.
