  • Those with 2.75" I-pipes (V8 take off)

Ok, I have a serious problem. I really really hate Meineke. I got the Dynomax Super Turbo muffler (part# 17739) and a 93-95 z-28 model take-off pipe. I would have to drive a good hour to get to a custom exhaust shop, and even if I did go there, I wouldn't want to be driving an hour there and an hour back if I have a problem after the exhaust is installed, so I had no choice but to go to Meineke. They refused to install the I-pipe because where it goes over the axle they said it was too close and when I drive if I went over a bump it would bang the car. I also told them that they can cut the pipe after the o2 sensor and put a reducer on there so they wouldn't have to play with the o2 sensor but they still refused because they were convinced that it will not fit. So they just slapped a reducer on my muffler to the stock I-pipe and put on my dynomax tailpipes. It sounds terrible, I have never been so disapointed. Has anyone ever had a problem with the single cat V8 take off pipes? Did you remove that weird bracket thing that is right after the S-pipe in order for the pipe to fit? Could you put that bracket thing back on or did you just leave it off? Does the pipe rattle or hit anything when you are driving?
They also tried to convince me that putting on the new I-pipe will not make it sound any different, is this true?
I am so disapointed I don't even want to drive my car. I did not intend for it to sound like a V8 at all but it doesn't even sound deep at idle, it almost sounds like stock. Will the V8 I-pipe make it louder so you can hear the deep tone?
By the way, the I-pipe that I got is from Walker. They said its not madrel bent, but it has no crimps in it at all and looks really good, I am pretty impressed with it. It is 2.75" and slips down to 2.5" and slips right into the muffler. If you want to look at it it is on this site http://www.walkerexhaust.com/vehicletypescrn.asp Just follow the cataloque instructions to get to the pipe for the 1995 V8 Camaro. (part# 47696)

you only problem is you went to that damn joke of a shop. the bracket shouldnt be a problem i believe and if it is then you can just take it off. the pipe over the axle will/should fit and they are just stupid. it will help with the sound.
never go back there. if you would ask questions before, you wouldnt of even had this problem in the first place

I really have no choice. They are the only ones around. I hate it. It was my last resort.

Well the place that is an hour away is a Lou's Custom Exhaust. They have a pretty good reputation. I guess I could go, I just wouldn't want to go and then come home and hear something rattle or have something be loose or anything and then have to drive an hour back there. I know it is rare that anything would be wrong, I just have really bad luck.

The new I-pipe doesn't have a spot for the o2 sensor because it was made for the 93-95 V8's. Do they make a bung or a housing for the o2 sensor that I can buy and have the shop just cut a hole in the new I-pipe and weld the housing on to it?

Chain shops will not help or work with you. You MUST go to a custom / f-body specific shop. You might not know that they are out there -- typically located in less street-front areas. Find them, they'll help you.
