Chevy doesn't list a power increase from the Y87 exhaust, and I think it's more cosmetic than functional. Just by virtue of the fact that it has two outlets rather than one, it should help a bit.
One thing you could look into, if you want, is getting ahold of an exhaust from a Z28/TA or SS/WS6.
Cale did that on his, and I will be doing it on mine. Cale said that it sounds really good, and that he got a boost in power from it.Wife and a dog, they both think they\'re Kujo.

1999 3.8 A4 Y87
Navy Blue Metallic
BFG G-Force KDWS 275/40/17s,
WS6 Wheels (17x9)
Phoenix Transmissions 2400 Stall Converter
FRA, Holley Powershot filter, Whisper Lid, Ported Throttlebody
2000 manifolds, Flowmaster, WS6 Tail Pipes,
MSD 8.5mm Wires, MSD Coils, Autolite plugs
Performance Cryogenics treated rotors
1LE Sway Bars and panhard rod, 1LE front springs w/SLP Bilsteins, stock rear springs w/ 3rd Gen Bilsteins, BMR STB, KBDD SFCs, 1LE rear lower control arms, 1LE front lower control arms
1968 Chevelle Malibu 327 TH350

He got the whole cat back right? because just the muffler will not do much. It would be better to get the s pipe and the I-pipe from the ls1 and get the muffler and tips of your choice.1996 Y87 Camaro, 175.0 rwhp, 211.6 rwtq.....1/4 15.500@88.54 <----- Needs work!!
-CAI, Custom bent S-Pipe, LS1 I-Pipe, Flowmaster 80 series, !MAF, manual fan switch, relocated trunk pop switch, 180 degree t-stat, More to come!
http://camaro.wbisolutions.com
WANTED!!! I picked up a takeoff Z28 muffler and tips from SLP for $50, including shipping to Orlando. You could also get them from a junkyard.

And no, you won't get any noticeable power increase from just a muffler. In fact, without a bigger intermediate pipe, a dual outlet muffler will actually DECREASE your power by a tiny amount, all other things being equal. Think about it...with a single outlet, the exhaust gasses go straignt into the muffler on one side and straight out the other. With dual outlets, half the gasses must bounce off the end, and fight their way back upstream to exit from the other end of the muffler.
But the difference is too small to notice, and dual outlets look WAY better than one.
So if you are going to get a Z or TA muffler at a boneyard, you might as well pick up the i-pipe at the same time (remember that 98+ V8's have dual cat setups, might have to futz with it to make it fit) or just have a muffler shop make you a bigger i-pipe, whatever size you want...I had my Z muffler installed and a 2.75" pipe custom made for $125.

Hey, are Y87 exhausts mandrel bent, or are they still crinked (or whatever the word is)--David--
The NEW V6Bird Website!
Cardomain site
ΔX

the "dual exhaust" is really just a second pipe coming out of the side of the muffler. 1 inlet-2 outlets. so no i dont think youd need any kind of balancer1997 Firebird V6-Y87/W68

Veesix, I'm getting the entire catbcak set-up. The guy I'm getting it from is replacing his with a Flowmater Catback.
V6Bird, the pipes are the non-Mandrel (crinked) bend.
Edge, you don't need a balancing pipe, because the exhaust comes off of the manifolds, and goes into a Y-pipe, then back through the cat, and to the muffler in a single pipe.Wife and a dog, they both think they\'re Kujo.

1999 3.8 A4 Y87
Navy Blue Metallic
BFG G-Force KDWS 275/40/17s,
WS6 Wheels (17x9)
Phoenix Transmissions 2400 Stall Converter
FRA, Holley Powershot filter, Whisper Lid, Ported Throttlebody
2000 manifolds, Flowmaster, WS6 Tail Pipes,
MSD 8.5mm Wires, MSD Coils, Autolite plugs
Performance Cryogenics treated rotors
1LE Sway Bars and panhard rod, 1LE front springs w/SLP Bilsteins, stock rear springs w/ 3rd Gen Bilsteins, BMR STB, KBDD SFCs, 1LE rear lower control arms, 1LE front lower control arms
1968 Chevelle Malibu 327 TH350
