What is a Resonator And how will it help??

Apparently from what i hear, resonators are supposed to take the ricey sound out at high rpms, am i right? If so, how does it do this. I don't really know what they are, and how to go about installing one, just curious, i know it won't make it sound like a V8, but if it makes it sound better that would be sweet.

The resonator will mellow out the exaust note. and yes it will help on the upper rpms to get rid of the "ricy" sound. I put the monza resonated tips on mine when I put the 2.75" s-pipe and the LS1 I-pipe. It now sounds very smooth throughout the rpm range. Allmost al of the buzzy sound went away. I only get a little bit of it at aoubt 4500 rpm when I let off the gas then in les then a sec it goes back to the smooth flowing sound. If I remeber right they work by reflecting ertin exaust notes "sounds" back on to eack other canceling them out. I am not sure how exactly they work but this is close enough :D hope this helps

thanks for that info, i appreciate it....but it is still kind of difficult for me to take in...does this decrease power, or restrict exhaust flow in any way? You mentioned that you have resonator tips, is there any other ways to do this? maybe sometype of tubing added to the I pipe? I probably sound like i dond't know what i'm talking about, which is probably true, but i'm still kind of curious as to how to do it and if it results in a performance loss.

The slp loudmouth exhaust has a resonator in the I-pipe. It is one of the least restrictive ways to quiet the exhaust down. It only puts out 1 psi of backpressore, I think. Rice rocket coffee can exhausts are basically the same way except larger.
