  • High-flow Cat

Ok, before I put on my new I-pipe I want to decide whether or not I want to put on a high-flow cat as well. If I get an OBD II compatible high-flow cat, will I still get the SES light that most of you with high-flows on the 98+ cars post about? I know many have said that it usually doesn't happen right away, like maybe 3 or 4 months down the road. I don't recall ever seeing anyone with a 96 or 97 post about a problem with a high-flow cat, did something in the computer change in 98 or do not many 96 and 97 owners on here have high-flows? I would like a high-flow cat to help my exhaust tone, but I don't want the SES light, and I am not going to use sims, I want to use the o2 sensors.

I have a 96 by the way. Stock except for the soon to come complete cat-back.

I have a 97 and have had a hi-flow cat on for just about 2 months now. No problems YET. Ieven have a bad o2 sensor (replacing it this weekend) right now and I still have not gotten an SES light.

BTW, headers will help your tone a lot. I may be able to dig up a sound clip of mine if you want...

What is your setup in the sound clip? Right now I just have a Dynomax super turbo muffler (2.5" inlet). I am going to put on a Z-28 I-pipe, and maybe a 3" in/out high-flow cat. Let me know if you run into trouble. I will be making up my mind by the end of the month whether or not I want to put on the high-flow cat. If you run into trouble, let me know how you solved it in case it happens to me, and if I run into trouble then I will probably post about it and post how I fixed it.

By the way, what do you have for a cat, I am thinking about Carsound/Magnaflow because I don't think the Catco's are OBD II compatible.
