I was wondering what the people who took their intake off completely and bolted a K&N filter to teh throttle body did with the IAT, I assumed that you would just leave it hanging by the intake. And yes I've read all the arguments against it, but I ahve no Credit/Debit card for now so I can't order stuff online.

if you have a MAF it will not work. but also there is the fact that the incoming air will be extrealy hot due to it's proximity to the motor. There is also an argument for flow velocity VS CFM.1996 Silver camaro Z28. i did this for a little while, i went from a CAI to just having the filter on the TB. Horrible. I mean Horrible performance, lost anything resembling throttle response, ran like poo. Put the CAI back on and wammo, throttle response is back and runs much smoother, i would say for the price of the K and N you can make a CAI that will last you some time.Pain Heals, Chicks dig Scars, and Glory is forever.<br />3 inch custom CAI, 8.8 Accel Spiro Fero wires, Bosch platinums, Flowmaster 80 series catback

I would liken it to adding 5 inch exhaust pipes. Flows plenty but has no velocity... Maybe at about 6500 RPM you would see a little increese in power.. But you gota ask youself would that mean a damn thing?1996 Silver camaro Z28. I had my car like this for 3 years and it was fine, when moving over 25 MPH the air coming into the motor is at the temp outside the car or maybe 5* more. (yes i used a scanner and logged it)
i just put the IAT in the filter and it works fine no weired reading from the MAF that i could see/feel/ see in the scan tool.
if you look at my cam video yo can see it in there.
if you have a straight TB you may get a bit hotter air becaus in the 97 the tunlens under the hood driect air into the TB, only way to tell is a scan tool tho

how the hell can you not have adverse effects from a MAF when it's not even hooked up? You had a filter attached to the throttle body and nothing esle???1996 Silver camaro Z28. our MAF is inside our TB. the only way to unhook it is to un plug it from the harness or remove the 2 screws holding it in and take it out
yes my filt is on the TB
www.turbov6camaro.com/video.html check out my cam videos you can see it
but the intake AIR temp you can just put it on the inside of the filter
EDIT: i see you have Z28, you maf is external to you TB ours is not

the 99+ are internal I know but I am not awae of the ealier years.. if thats true then you should be all right unless you flow more then the MAF VS TPS map wants to see and sets a SES... but, even with the TB pointed down i bet if you look a laser thermometer and hit the filter near the motor and a filter placed where it normaly wold be with a CAI you will find that it's a bit warmer. You also have to figure like I said before. Flow VS velocity.1996 Silver camaro Z28.
