  • Header Hype?

The guy that is putting my headers on said it wont make a difference on my car since it is a v6.... I've always thought they added HP myself and made them sound better but he said all they did was make it sound better?

Most of you guys I've read have reported a noticable difference or am I just seeing things?

The guy putting them on is a dumbass. They will make a difference on your car, its one of the best things you can do on our cars n/a.

It wont make as much of a difference on yours cause you already have tubular manifolds, but it will still be noticable both power, SOTP, and sound!

I've had people tell me that a 3" I-Pipe wouldn't even fit on my car because it's a V6. I've also heard that my car would sound like crap with a cam.

No, this isnt the guy putting them on. I've got a couple mechanic freinds that have told me this and I've always thought they were full of it.

If done correctly aftermarket exhaust on ANY motor is a good thing.

The threshold for overshooting with exhaust is a lot closer with a lower displacment motor. if your not carefull you can hurt yourself more then you gain. But in any motor getting rid of restrictions will help no matter the aplication.

If you dont go over 3" for the pipe size and dont put 2" primary custom longtube headers, you shouldnt have a problem. Of course you can do too much, but the headers made for our cars will do nothing but help you. The size of the exhaust pipe will modify your powerband but 3" exhaust wont hurt, only moves the band a bit higher. Plenty of people have gotten better gains with a 3" than a 2.5". The only reason it wouldnt fit is the outlet of the stock cat is 2-1/4" so you would either have to open it up more or get a new cat. I have the Hooker 3" LT1 93-95 single cat catback exhaust system, it includes the s-bend on the i-pipe and with a 3" in/out cat will go up just fine and dandy. Ignore the dumbasses who say you cant do this or that and who know absolutely nothing about our cars. Ive seen some 4 cylinder Civic Del Sols with a header, intake, and 3" pipes all the way back on their tiny motors and the car runs fine, just has the most power up near 8500 RPMS is all. Not suggesting that its the best one for power and bigger isnt always better, but 3" is plenty safe for our cars. Also, I got an O2 simulator for my 97 post-cat sensor with no cat and I havent had any problems or engine codes as a result and I have over 750 miles on it with this setup.

First off, never let your "friends" near your car, they are ignorant. Secondly, repeat the first part.

One of them is a genious with cars but I dont know where he got that from. He's 26 and had a his own shop. He could do anything and do it right but he must have been smoking something.

Looks like headers wont be going on for a while anyways. After today they found a broken bolt on one of the manifolds that is sheared off in the head. I really dont have the time nor money to get this fixed anytime soon to drill and tap it.

Oh god this pisses me off. I blew up about it earlier. One shop wanted about $250 to do it.... I didnt buy a new car to have to work on it, thats what my old truck is for...

"The stock exhaust manifolds feature ports that are very small in diameter and are highly restrictive, leading to backpressure that robs your engine of performance. The way to give your engine much higher flow and gain a substantial amount of power is to replace these choke points with headers. Headers are high-flow replacements for the exhaust manifolds. Instead of being one large cast iron unit that heats up tremendously, headers have a seperate pipe for each cylinder"
