ok... My exhaust guy said that I would be ok without it, and it was vibrating really badly... so here is the question... Where can find a new one, or is there something I can do to use in place since I no longer have the heat shield?
-Justin
P.S. So should I not be running the car more than I need to? My mechanic, who I trust, said it would be fine without it unless I ran through a field or something like that. Any help here?
I have a heat shield question too. I was wondering if anyone has had problems with their gas heat shield rattling? If so how did you get rid of the rattle?

Justin - I beleive the heat shield is on there so when you drive over something like leafs, you'll be safe and nothing will catch on fire. You'll be fine w/o it on there, but i'd be careful over what you drive over. I don't know where you can get a new one, maybee contact GM partsdirect.com and ask them if they have a specific part number for one. You can buy a catco cat for around $50 and have that installed. If your car is over 60,000mi your cat is probably on it's way out anyway.
Blackswordsman - I'm not sure what you mean by gas shield ratting???
I just tok mine off. I asked the same question a week ago and people told me it was not a good idea bacause I would burn my wires. Well I took another look and the shields did not even protect the area where my wires were. I agree that they are just there to protect you from a fire if crap is blown into you engine bay. Where I live it not a problem.

If you really want to keep it just get some hose claps. Hook them end to end put it around the cat/heat shield and tighten this will stop it from rattling.
