  • noise after k&n cia install

I posted awhile back my car had a noise at idle, well last night I installed a k&n CIA. The 1st time I started it up the noise was 2x louder!?!

I don’t see how that could have any thing to do with it. The noise is what sounds like tin/sheet metal flapping in the wind. The funny thing is after the car warms up “two min max” the noise is almost completely gone.

I took one of the vacuum lines off to run some seafoam and the motor started to stumble but I noticed that the belt was bouncing around a lot, Vibrating and hoping. belt?

Water pump? Exhaust leak? I have checked all the heat shields and they seem very well bolted on.

    Any idea’s?

Its normal...its the intake noise. its the sucking noise...

Get your car above 3k RPMs and enjoy the turbo-ish noise.

No this is not the air moving threw the filter noise... it's an motor or belt driven accessories noise

        Hello

I had a problem similar to this, not SURE at all if its the same with you, but figured I'd let you know. Well, one of my pulleys, the extra one on the left side of the front of the block, had for some reason a dent in it where the belt touches pretty deep, and it ended up ruining the belt and my water pump.. but it made a very weird noise, like a humming, not sure if thats what you hear or not but ya know ... btw I replaced it with a metal one and it's been awesome ever since! it is probably the air pump you are hearing.. it is supposed to run 2 minutes when the car is cold to help get the catylitic converter going

            Thanks guys

I don’t think it's a pump issue for the fact I could not find one :D maybe I missed it but I did not see any injection tub’s on the manifolds. The sound never does go away it just becomes almost unnoticeable after the warm-up.

I will check out the belt and pulleys, I have sprayed WD-40 on the pulley’s and the sound does not even change.

I know it’s hard to tell what it is with out hearing it… so I will try to get a sound clip of the noise

            Oh it’s a 3800II 1996
