My 3.4L had the same plug. As far as I know all 3.4L's do.

Not sure. It is a weather tight plug though.

Maybe for different emission equipment (CA, NE, etc.)?

Maybe it is for some option you don't have on your car (ie. A/C)?

I have ac. Normally it just lays underneath the fuse relay box. Whats the IAT? Intake Air Temp? If so, all of the plugs on my intake hose are plugged in. There is a port on the FIPK, but it is a round one, plus in the directions for it, it says that the port is for the A.I.R. Pump tube on the LT1.

The emissions idea is a good one. Other thoughts that have crossed my mind are some sort of diagnostics port, or possibly something for the LT1 engine.

The wire leads down towards the bottom of the strut tower, not sure where it goes from there.

I know what that is for. Being a California Resident, owning a CA spec car, and having just removed everything from the engine bay and reinstalled it...

that plug is for the A.I.R pump. only certain cars were required to have one. those that were sold in states that have federal standards for clean air.

the AIR pump is not necessary, extra piece of hardware, it wont hurt or help the engine really. all it does is add air into the exhaust to help the catalytic converter break down the gas more. (helps emissions)-- o yea

however -- before everyone runs out and removes theirs, if you live in a state such as California -- if you remove the A.I.R pump, and go have a smog check done, and get caught without it, you can get slapped with a FINE. those suck lol
