  • My experiance w/ having a friend help you

well, i have been working on my exhaust w/ my girlfriends dad since two sundays ago. and we finished it tonight and i can down to a tip that was sticking from underneath the body. i want to cut the tip off and cut the slack off the tail pipe and weld it back on. a 1 job. and he was joking about cuting the tip back and then grinding it down. and i told hell no. well, i walked away and i turn around and hes going at the tip w/ a torch and i was like what the ****. well there was no turning back. and to top everything off, the tip he cut was totally not the same angel as the other and he burnt off the paint on my bumper right above the tip. i just came home and cried. thats all i could do.

That sucks man, sorry to hear that. Just goes to show that you gotta do things yourself if you want it done right

Hopefully you can get it all fixed somehow, tell him you want to the bumper painted over or something, just take it a little easy on him since it is your gf's dad.

I've cussed out my girlfriend's parents. If they do something stupid call them on it. If the guy messes up your bumper... call him on it lol. If you messed up his car he sure as hell would yell at you for it.

Sounds like a classy guy. I'd be incredibily pissed if someone burned the paint of any part of my car, free or not. Tell him "Thanks for the free exhaust work but the bumper wasn't included in that deal you owe me ____ ."

exactly, especialy since i specificly told him not to do what he did. i talked to me fiancee about it and she thinks that he'll try to hold it over my head that he did it for free so i told her my mom will sue him. im pretty sure the realationship w/ the woman i love is going out the door.

Even if I were doing something like that for free, if the person I was doing it for told me not to do something, first I wouldnt do it. Second, if I broke something or damaged something or BURNED something(particularly the paint!) I would try to make it right with them.

Sure the exhaust help was free, but through his slopiness he burnt your paint, etc. The girl is important. You aren't dating her parents, and frankly she can love who she wants; her parents have nothing to do with your loving each other.

Her dad messing up(and we all do it), and you wanting to get it fixed shouldn't have any bearing on A)the relationship between you and your girl, and B)the "freeness" of the original job.

Just be rational about it with him and tell him calmly and without mincing words how you see the situation.

Any outside party can see that it isn't too much to ask for him to fix what he damaged.

Honestly dude if its your fiancee, I'd let it go... Its just a car... you will probably have it a few more years, your father in law, you will likely have him much longer.

He is at fault, but gonna risk having bad blood and problems with your father in law which will be problems with your fiancee, over a $300 fix?

If it was just a girlfriend's dad, or a friend's dad maybe but not a fiancee's.

sometimes with friends and family you just eat your losses and keep it in the back of your head for next time. Losing a good friend, or the favor of your finace's dad, isnt worth $300.

....not saying that there arent those that I WOULD hold responsible.... just not anybody close.

Thats a load. For any healthy relationship you talk things out. If you asking your fiance's dad to fix something that he broke on your car effects your relationship with your fiance in a bad way, your in for a fun time later in life. If you can't be civilized and deal with a little problem like that your gonna be screwed when bigger things happen.
