  • Big Metal Bee In My Car?

Ok, I have been hearing this noise when I am pretty sure is from my exhaust. At first I noticed it in the front of my car, as if it was directly under my dash. It is a very fast vibrating noise, almost like a buzzing. At first, it was only at 2800-3000 rpms when I was accelerating hard, but now the sound is spreading... I now get it throughout the RPM range when I accelerate hard, and I hear it mostly from behind me now. So here are my guesses as to what the problem is:

    1. My exhaust is loose at a junction where it was welded, and it is buzzing against itself.

    2. When my exhaust was welded on, some of the welded stuff (what is it called, anyway?) is breaking loose from the weld spot.

    3. I angered a mad scientist, who sent an army of metallic bees after me. They are under my car, keeping surveilance on me at all times. The reason that I hear the buzzing when I am accelerating hard past 3000 is because the bees are working hard to keep up.

    What do you guys think?

possibly the heat shield on your cat.. get some bailing wire and use it to try to tighten up that shield and see what happens..
btw.. if that is the case you don't have to keep the bailing wire on there.. just run it to an exhaust shop and I'm sure you can get the heat shield welded in place so it don't rattle no more..

if it's #3.. time to find a really kickass can of raid.. :D

          lmao. Number three is classic.

My exhaust is rattling now. It really, really sucks. It makes it seem like my car is some old clunker. Pissing me off really bad. I haven't had a chance to mess, but I'll probably get it tommorow.

justin - i don't think it is anything from the cat back... because i had, and currently have the same sound... I replaced my exhaust (cat back) w/ a B&B and i still can hear that sound... i hope we can find out what it is...

very likely it is the heatshield over the cat, or where the cat is connected on either side... had this same problem got my hi flow cat put in, solved the problem.
A bad weld COULD cause this... but I would think that it would have to be trully horrible work.
