headers????

As far as performance, what do headers do and ruffly how much of a HP gain am i looking to get out of them. My car is almost all stock my mods are at the bottom of this post, please help.

im looking for ways to gain HP that i can notice from the line and on top end. i want to go to the track but i dont want to get blown away

HEaders replace your exhaust manifolds. They flow better than a stock manifold but dont really increase power too much. I just bought some. They will go on in about a week or so. For more info check the website Modification Reviews section.

On a stock car, figure 5-10 rwhp. they won't do as much as a cat-back will, since the worst restriction of the stock exhaust is the s-pipe. the headers will get you gains across the powerband though, and it won't move the powerband up or down like a cat-back will. However, when you do get a cat-back, you'll get a lot more top-end out of the car, especially if you get a bigger cat.

Incorrect, the length of headers determine the powerband!

Shorty headers don't really do anything for below 8,000RPM driving - they simply smooth out the flow and look pretty.

The only way you're going to see 5hp+ from headers is to go with custom longtubes tuned to your cam and engine powerband. Without the proper length tubing, and proper diameter for that matter, headers are nothing more than a fashion statement!

so cat-back is the way to go i guess. is the cat-back an up grade on the exhaust, what is it? sorry im culeless but thats why im here. what gains will the cat give #'s please thanks

It's okay.

#1 thing you need to do is go look under your car. Go crawl under it and try not to get stuck, stare and ponder and look at all the pieces and how they fit :D

Now, a catback is simply piping which runs from the catalytic converter to a muffler, plus the muffler, plus the tail outlet pipes - somtimes even including tips. Catback exhaust systems do not include catalytic converters, but for our V6s it is adviseable to switch the stock 2.25" outlet one with one that fits your new system (2.5" or 3") for higher flow.
