  • important question. need to make up my mind by end of today..

i have a stock exhaust system, EXCEPT the Flowmaster Muffler.

i want the make my exhaust less restrictive and a bit louder.

would gutting the cat be a good way to go?

or should i gut the cat, upgrade to 2.5inch pipe, and do something about the S pipe?

Yes, I would advise against gutting the cat. Unless you have headers it probably will not be a sound you like.

It's only bad at high rpm's when racing and when shifting when your rpm's drop suddenly. You also loss a little low end power with gutting the cat but gain it back at the top end.

99BlueSuperSix, this isn't Jhonathon is it? If not, who is this? When can I race you? What all do you have to run at 15.2 at Idalou? Is that with nitrous or what? I'm pretty sure that I'm the fastest V6 Fbody around here except Matt with the help of his "friend" in the back seat.

Wait, can't be Jhonathon, he has a Firebird. I'm not calling BS or anything, I just want to know how your running faster. Can you make it to the street night out at Idalou on the 17th? That will be the first night that they have time slips and will only cost $5 for a car and driver then $3 for additional people. Atleast that was what I heard last.
I'd love to race you that way we can see exactly what each other can run. I'm hoping with that cooler night air I can grab a 15.2 or better. I might even have to shift to 4th before I cross the line but I doubt it.

You might do best investing in a complete new system - the full 3" deal is only $267 from Jegs.

You can buy 3" piping to the muffler for $100 minus the S pipe from summit too - partnumbers are on my website under modifications (scroll down some)

I'd also recommend 3" piping. with a 3" catco and a cutout if you want loud. ;)

I would stay with the high flow cat. I would be kinda hesitant to put a cut-out on it also. It would be loud but I wold think the sound would rice out really quic, but I don't know for sure. If you want the most out of it go with 2.5" piping and a HF cat. I had 3" on my 3.4 and I thought it was to big.

Well, here's what I would have done if I knew a few things. I would have first off gotten my entire exhaust done at the same time, it's a lot cheaper that way than paying several times for install. I would have gotten the 3" Dynomax I pipe, two 3" mandrel bent 45* turns to make an S pipe, cut the end off my stock cat so that a 3" pipe will weld up to it. Look at the undercar pictures on my website if you want to see how it looks. Just have to be careful that the welder doesn't melt the ceramic honey comb stuff. Just cut it off with a sabersaw. I would have still gotten my flowmaster muffler I have and the same tips. I would have put a cutout right before the cat though, if I could find a shop to do so. Then put the mechanical switch on it so you can flip it from inside the car. I would only run it open at the track or maybe to set off all of the car alarms in a parking lot. A friend has this on his 30th TA and he says it's a really fun toy.

Sorry, Kendall is it? Didn't see your post 'til now... as far as mods go starting from the front, I have a SS hood which is not functional right now, removed the air silencer, cut out the airbox, done some light internal engine work (secret :D ) and did some minor valve body work in the tranny still have stock 3.08 gears, and I had dual flowmasters, right now I have a single 2.5" Flomaster delta flow 40 dumped but I'm going back to dual flows on wednesday... I think my cat is killing my car right now.. scoggin said it is clogged up so I need to get it changed... but if you wanna check my car out, race and what have you... holler at me by email or something, I'm out on 82nd a lot...
