• what if I just remove the muffler?

Okay, everyones buying flowmasters and such... but what would happen if someone just took the muffler off and ran the pipe from the cat straight out the rear? Any gain? How would it sound?
Not a problem, just a challenge...

Some people have other names for that...."SLP Loudmouth" When I had my 2.5" mandrel bent I-pipe in there, I did the straight pipe thing where the muffler is....doesn't sound very good at all. It IS loud as all hell, but not a good, "tuned" loud...more of an obnoxious loud.

Well Matt likes his, he has a cut out at the bend right before the muffler and always leaves it uncapped. It's not as loud as mine at idle and a lot different sounding when running. He gained quite a bit with it though and it's definately the cheapest way to go.

Thats how my exhaust is. The guy removed my muffler and installed a ypipe in its place and ran me two 2 1/2 inch resonated tips. I think it sounds pretty good. Go to this link and click on camaroexhaust to hear it. The sound quality is kinda shaddy so you may have to turn the volume up a bit.

Thanks, you just answered my question before I could ask it. I was ready to ask if the Loudmouths were deep, I mean I know they're loud-but it's the deepness that I like. Example, my neighbor has a louder exhaust than mine, but it doesn't sound as good since it is hollower where as mine is a little deeper.

i know you are all gonna say, you have a 3.4 so how do you know -- but be it 3.4, or 3.8, if you have a 2.25/2.5" i-pipe, your exhaust is gonna sound like crap.

i bought a Flowmaster 2 chamber, 40 series, and put it on my stock 2.25" ipipe without changing anything. my car sounded like a civic. an angry bee my friend called it. my dad said it sounded like a rubberband.

then i got smart, and go a full 3" catback and switched to a QUIETER (yes quieter) muffler, the 3 chamber -- The sound instantly improved. I just recently (tonite) took a video of my car running with the 3" catback, !CAT, and cutout open, you can hear it by going here:
