  • SLP CAI install help

Well, the install wasn't too bad...except until I got to the putting on the air filters, and plugging in the MAF sensor. Can anyone reccomend an easy way to lining the filters up and tightening them? I took off the splash plate but the space under the car is so cramped it's proving very difficult to line up and tighten the filters. Secondly, I tried plugging the MAF sensor into the hole but it just won't stay in there. How to I keep it there without falling out? Also, now that the splash plate is taken out, should I put it back on after the installation or leave it off?

    Any help would be appreciated.
    -Brent

you have to take out the little plug out of your old air box and plug it into the rubber elbow then the MAF will clip into the plug, also for the filters when i put mine on i got under the car and took off the bottom plate and then perfect access to the pipes but it was quite a task getting them on and tightening the screws.

I just tried to take the plug from the airbox and it really isn't coming. I know there's a sensor on it and the last thing I want to do is break it. What's the right way to go about taking it out? Now I'll just have to try and get those filters on in the mean time....it's a real pain, there's no clearance and you have to tighten them completly blind. Thanks for the help!

yeah it was a ***** to get out of that old air box but it does come out, i just used needle nose pliars and just be careful. i just took off as many panels as i could until i could see the ends of the pipes. it just happened to be one panel. so just take a couple panels off if you have to.

I'd definately say put it back on.. You don't want anything getting lodged around the filters that kicks up off the road, whether it's a clump of leaves or dirt or rubber that's on the roadway.. Your filters would get dirty much quicker and I think the performance gains would be minimal.. But if you want more air in there, you could do what I'm considering - put an air scoop under that part of the car with a screen over it to keep large foreign objects out... Like this:

            http://www.charm.net/~mchaney/ramair/ramair.htm

It was designed for a LT1, but it can easily be done just the same on our cars.. And will get more cool air to the filters on the SLP CAI.. Like I said though, if I do it I'm going to put a screen over it so leaves, dirt, rubber, stones, or any other crap doesn't get sucked in there...

well wont that mess up the whole purpose of having those splach protectors, from keeping the water and other crap of getting to your sensors, it looks like it will help but how does it keep the water out of your filters??
