  • Failed Inspection... AGAIN!

Ok last time i failed in every way on NOx. After that i changed my o2 sensors, pcv valve, and ran a bottle of techron through it. When i took it this time i failed only on NOx at high speeds with a standard of 821 and mine was 1104. What can i do to fix this?

did you drive your car around a lot before you took it in? A hot cat can really make the difference.

its been 6 months or so and jiffy lube checks it everytime i go in. im buying patricks k&n fipk intake and im gonna put a new cone on it and whatnot, how much would that help? im considering new plugs and wires. i have no idea otherwise what it might be.

I believe the EGR valve system helps control NOx emissions, try checking into that.

I have no clue about the EGR on the 3.4L. I would look it up in my Haynes manual but its in my car which is in the shop :( sorry.

NOx happens when there's too much heat, too much compression, for too long a time. reduce any of these, and the NOx will drop. quicker burn rates, cooler temps, more spark advance, ect.

You mentioned to me a while ago that you had a leak on your EGR. I thought we figured that a leaking EGR could result in less gas circulation, which would inturn prevent the system from reducing cylinder temps. And as Wolf pointed out, and we discussed before, the higher temps result in more NOx. Did you ever do anything to fix the leak?

                        Quicker burn, eh?

What kind of gas are you filling up with? Use Regular 87 Octane if you're not already.

Changing plugs and wires would definitely help with an emissions test. Also, as said before, heat up the CAT a lot before taking the test.

i dont know much about the EGR. all i can say is that the piping that runs from the intake elbow to the engine is beat to hell, the rubbery thing at the end is split. i use 93 octane. what should i do, new intake, plugs and wires, and use 87 octane? im in mass confusion.

If you are talking about the small black tube that runs from the rubber intake elbow to the passenger side valve cover, that is not the EGR. The EGR is located near there, but the tube runs from exhaust manifold to the EGR and then up to the intake manifold. You should see a metal flex tube connected to your manifold with two bolts. Follow that tube and you will find your EGR system. What you described sounds like the AIR tube, which serves a different purpose.
