Higher octane = slower burn.
High octane gas is for high compression engines so that you don't get premature ignition, which could lead to detonation.
Your engine's compression isn't nearly high enough to need 93 octane gas. Running that high an octane will leave deposits from unburnt/partially burnt gas, and hinder performance.
I would try the following: Run a tank of 87 octane gas through the engine, and maybe throw in a bottle of fuel system cleaner. Then change the spark plugs (make sure they're properly gapped before you put them in) and refill the tank (87 again).
Also, change your air filter element if you haven't done so already; and you may need to change your EGR valve, but it doesn't really sound like it.-James<br /><br />\'96 3.8L A4 Camaro (SOLD)
