  • EGR question

Ok, no one in general tech could help me, ive asked several times in the past month in diffrent topics. So now im asking here. Is there a way to disable the egr? Can i just crimp the egr hoses? Can i simply unplug it. At what times is the valve closed??? im guessing when the engine is cold. For those of you that have removed the valve, what have you used to block the holes? I just feel its silly trying to reburn exhaust. I dont care it it brings on the ses light, as long as the car still runs good. Im looking to see if i get a hair more power, a better gas milage. Thanks for any help

    ZZP sells block off plates.
Removing it will cause worse gas milage and higher burning temps

Do you even know what it does? It's there for a reason. It's not just there to try to reburn exhaust.

No and No. Do some reading about it. ;)

If you really want to remove it (I'd leave it there if I were you), get the blockoff plates.

      Moving to intake/exhaust (a search there would've helped ;) ).

This is the delete product everyone is talking about. I have a used one for sale that I'm looking to get rid of, email me if you're interested (dorsey23@marshall.edu).

I took my egr off, along with a handful of other people on this board. No problems so far???

Let me ask you why you want to get rid of it. Do you gain proformance with egr gone or unplugged?

I'm getting rid of it because I just got hp tuners and could delete the ses code that way. And I didn't need the block-off plates because I bought some of them seperate awhile ago.

As for performance gains...you're not gonna feel 2hp if you even get that at all. When my nitrous pressure is low and my 75 shot is not hitting hard, you can hardly feel that, even though it may be 20 hp (who knows).

Mine is completely gone. I had Texas Speed disable the EGR and remove the codes so I could pull the whole system out. Car runs the same, idles just a hair smoother. I plugged the intake manifold hole with a big Grade 8 bolt and some silicone RTV sealant. The exhaust hole was plugged with a Grade 8 bolt as well and was sealed inside and out with Quik Steel, no leaks and looks nice and smooth. No more exhaust gas in the intake manifold. Lots of open room on the right side of the throttle body too now, which adds nicely to the open left area thanks to the removed A/C system and compressor. Engine bay is smooooooth.

pardon me for interuppting, but what states do you guys live in that you can take off ur emissions crap, here in good ol' PA, not only does your vehicle not pass inspection, but i believe they then sentence you to death after you tamper with ur emissions, orrr, maybe im just a tard, is it legal to remove the egr system?

Here in texas all the guys that run inspection stations are pretty simple. All they do is pop the hood, look for about 5 seconds, then slam it back down. Check the lights, and see if the check engine light is on, drive it around the station one time to check the brakes, and your done. I really really really doubt they would notice the egr gone, being its located and looks diffrent on all cars. And if they do ill go down the street to the next station. But if you drive a 1995 or older car the put a exhaust moniter up your cars rear and check it for polution. My truck thats a 1995 passes with flying colors every time.

I would only remove it if you totally remove it from your PCM.

EGR only works at crusing speeds. When your getting on it and idleing it dont do a thing.

What does it do? Improves gas mileage + lowers your combustion tempatures.

The only benifet is it takes up less room in my opnion, but i might do it when i get longtubes, but im proamming it out. Plus on a lt1 its in the back pass side :(
