Is there anything bad about my removing the EGR valve and the AIR pump? Any harmful side-affects of taking these off besides increased emissions and the computer storing codes cuz it's wondering why these two systems are not doing their job? I've already made block off plates for the EGR on the exhaust manifold and the intake. I just don't like all of the carbon build up from the EGR flowing exhaust into the intake, and besides lowering the combustion chamber temp by adding non-explosive gasses, it can't be good for better combustion. And I'm thinking the cat will just not operate as quickly as it should w/ the AIR pump removed. Is there anything else bad that would happen if I took them off? Thanks

Most headers for the 3.4L do not even come with a port for the AIR Pump hook up. I removed mine and have not had a problem at all, but instead, a place to mount my MSD Box. The AIR pump is used as an emissions helper, but it is rarely used by the vehicle...mostly at startup. As far as the EGR, I have heard that it will decrease gas mileage fi you remove it, but I don't know for sure...mine is still intact. My question is whether or not disconnecting and removing the EGR system will cause the SES to stay illuminated all the time. If not, I will be removing mine soon.- Josh
If you have any questions or need installation pics/help, e-mail me: Viper98885@aol.com
\'93 Camaro Hardtop
\'01 Lincoln LS8 Sport
\'00 Yamaha YZF-R6
Full Throttle Performance

So you havn't had your SES light some on because you don't have the air pump installed? I've read that the oxygen sensor diagnoses the air pump by seeing if a lean condition exists when it turns the pump on. But perhaps ours doesn't diagnose it. As far as the EGR, I've read that the MAP sensor diagnoses the EGR by detecting if there is a difference in manifold presure through the MAP sensor once the EGR is opened. I dunno, we'll see.Wayne
94 5 spd Camaro
Turbo/Intercooled
http://www.geocities.com/Mustang732/cars.htm

Megasquirt Stand-alone EFI controling fuel/spark w/ wideband:
http://home.att.net/~basic-4/2ndMegasquirt/NewMegasquirt.html

I unplugged my EGR last night after reading this post and drove around for nearly an hour and didn't get a SES light. Any thoughts?- Josh
If you have any questions or need installation pics/help, e-mail me: Viper98885@aol.com
\'93 Camaro Hardtop
\'01 Lincoln LS8 Sport
\'00 Yamaha YZF-R6
Full Throttle Performance

Okay, driving around this afternoon with the EGR unplugged and I got the ol' SES light...not worth the sacrafice in my opinion. I didn't see any change in power, but it did seem to guzzle through the last 1/4 tank of gas.- Josh
If you have any questions or need installation pics/help, e-mail me: Viper98885@aol.com
\'93 Camaro Hardtop
\'01 Lincoln LS8 Sport
\'00 Yamaha YZF-R6
Full Throttle Performance

I just don't like all that carbon build up in my intake. I want nothing but clean pressurized air entering my plenum.Wayne
94 5 spd Camaro
Turbo/Intercooled
http://www.geocities.com/Mustang732/cars.htm

Megasquirt Stand-alone EFI controling fuel/spark w/ wideband:
http://home.att.net/~basic-4/2ndMegasquirt/NewMegasquirt.html
