  • Upgrading to Dual Exhaust Pipes

Hey. I have a v6 Firebird and I was just wondering...

Well, one of my friends when I was out of town, who drives a 2003 Yellow Sunfire coupe (which had dual exhaust pipes) asked me where my exhaust pipes were.

Embarassed that I only had one, and it was hidden underneath the car pointing down, I said "I only have one, and its down there"

I was just wondering a few things:

1.) How much does it cost to upgrade from single exhaust pipe to dual exhaust pipes so it looks like the Trans Am exhaust?

2.) Do I need a new back bumper to fit the exhaust pipes like the Trans Ams, they look slightly different, almost as if its raised so the exhaust pipes can fit up in the bumper on Trans Ams.

3.) Is there any change in sound or gas miliage? I've heard that upgrading to dual exhaust is better on gas and it creates more of a Trans Am burble...

Have a Camaro myself so not sure about all of your questions, however...

Unless your friend's Sunfire is not stock, it's just a dual outlet, not true dual exhaust. This can be done very easily on an fbody and in fact is done with the Y87 option. You can get a new single to dual outlet muffler like a Flowmaster 80 and have new pipes made or you can get a pre-made catback that replaces everyhing behind the catalytic converter with everything you need.

what he said. if you just want dual outlets (like most of us have) buy one of the many mufflers talked about on this board (do a search) and havt it welded up in place of your stock muffler with two tips coming out right below your stock bumper. probably about a 150-200 dollar job

true dual exhaust is very difficult to do on our cars b/c it's so low to the ground...and the gas tank is right in the way.

dual outlet if fine for our v6 anyway.

there is someone who is rigging a true dual setup...look in this section to find the post...he'll have pics shortly.

        EDIT: here is the post
