CAI bypass valve

So my roommate tells me that if I want a CAI, I'll need to get a bypass valve to keep it from sucking in water. I did a search on the board and found no references to this...so do I need one or what? (I'm looking at SLP's intake). Thanks :D

actually...i haven't heard of one before..but i could see the necessity of one..

my CAI is in my fenderwell, and i'm scared to death i'm going to snorkel it someday, and waterlock my engine..

the way i see it working would to open a valve to an alternate intake point when the primary can't pull a vacuum...although this would prob not help if the car was moving and already had full vac...maybe only like when there's 20 in/Hg.


My roomate who is the import guy just told me that AEM makes one...i guess look it up somewhere else...but i don't think you need to worry about it in an f-body.

I don't think I ever heard in the history of CAIs about snorkeling the intake. It might suck up some moisture but any intake is going to do that. Unless your driving in some mass flood situation I can't see anything like this happening. And even if you were driving in excessive water your probably going to have more problems with sparkplugs/wires and crap. Solution to the problem? Don't try to drive in 20foot deep water. If it is that bad, don't leave the house. however if you do drive through 50foot water every day. Get an intake that sits higher up.

my friends roomate snorkeled his civic w/ a CAI...had to replace it w/ a b series from japan..it's very possible. what makes it so hard to believe?

HAven't you guys seen that vid where the celica is shooting water out of its sparkplug holes when the crank the motor?

ITs a thing to worry abotu but not too much in f-bodies.

If you keep the plastic piece on underneath the cAI filters you are fine.

now if you remove it you still may be fin jsut don't drive in deep puddles, I get weary hear in FL, seen a few cars hydrolock the motors becuase of in fender ram air setups that go under the car.

You guys say that in your dry parts of the country. Come to florida. 2 weeks ago I had water come in the bottom of my doors driving through a parking lot. Alot of cars have filters that low.

ok, ill clear this up. the main problem with water in intakes is when the intake is a low snorkle on the ground, like on track cars. with higher intakes, you run a VERY rare chance of getting water in it. basically, like someone said, if you have an intake, use some friggin common sense and dont go into a friggin lake with it.

basically, yes, you can get water into your intake.........if you are a dumba$$.
