Hey guys... I went to a motorsport shop where they sell both Magnaflow, and Flowmaster. I had my heart set on the 80- series flowmaster, and then as I talked to the guy, he said those sound like s***, and suggested the magnaflow to me. They both were the same price. What are your suggestions?? e-mail me
From what I've heard it's the opposite. He might be relating them compared to what a V8 sounds like. From what I understand the Magna Flow sounds like a honda exhaust. As for Flowmaster, it's loud, and it sounds good. Now, you might want to look up part numbers from people who have Flowmasters, I don't know anyone with a Magna Flow, and see if you can get the same muffler from this shop. Otherwise just order it through some place like summit. You don't want to get the wrong muffler for you car, that's a big pain in the a$$. Use what us fellow F-body V6'ers have experienced to help you, it will save you money, time, and a lot of headaches. Furthermore, always research what you're wanting to mod and welcome to the board.

Yeah, I heard another story exactly like yours.... a guy went to the exhaust shop to get flows put on... the guy talked him into magnaflow, and he absolutely hates it, sounds like sh*t.
So you guys would all reccomend Flowmaster 80 series. That's what I had don'e the research on, and heard like 5-6 different sound clips, and it sounded pretty good. Anyone else have the 3.4L 6 cyl with just the flowmaster 80 on there? How does it sound for you??

So if I go with the flowmaster... It has 3" Inlet, and two 2.5" Outlets. Can the 3" inlet be made to work with the existing piping, which I believe is 2.25"? - I also read somewhere if you take the 2.5" outlets down to 2", the sound will be louder, and better... is this true?

You can have the 2." pipe made to fit a 3" pipe.
But, I would recommend ordring some exhaust piping from the cat to the muffler which is the S pipe and I pipe. Also you might want to get a high flow cat since you car probably has some miles on it. A large dilemma sometimes of what size of piping to get is always an issue. The issue at hand is that you have to think about if you're going to add headers or do any engine work. If you are going to put headers but not any engine work then you'll probably want to go with nothing bigger than 2.75". If you're gonna do engine work then you should be okay with 3" piping. The thing is that the Flowmaster flows really well and if you ever plan on getting headers you're not going to have any backpressure. So if you plan on doing headers don't go above 2.75". As for the outlet piping, I wouldn't mess with that. I have never heard that going from a larger pipe to a smaller pipe is going to make a louder noise. There's two cars that you can compare, a first generation Camaro with those tiny little exhaust tips and a 5.0 Mustang with those big long crome 3" tips. The Stang sounds crazy, like there's a hurricane coming or something. That's my logic of thinking anyway.

Yup. Our club president has a flowmaster on his 3.4L w/ a 3" i-pipe & it sounds pretty deep. You can have the muffler shop just put a reducer on the 3" outlet of you FM to connect it to your stock i-pipe, or you can just put in 3" i-pipe while your at it.

A lot of people have the flows, but on a 3.8 they sound like a v8 running in a tin shed to me. I can't complain about my magnaflow, straight through performance baby! Not honda-like at all. But then again I have a 3.8. I haven't even changed the I-pipe yet.
