hey all, hate to make my first post a gripe but;
i just got my flowmaster 80 installed today and want to know... is there any way to make the sound deeper?? it sounds great at idle and up to about 2500 rpm but after that it gets kind of raspy.

If the muffler is new, it will deepen in a couple months. Mine was pretty raspy and droned like nothing else when i first got it. After 3 months it sounded completely different; a lot deeper and not as raspy. Just give it a little time.

Quick answers:
1) Wait at least a couple of weeks for muffler "burn-in" to take place.
2) Get a Whisper Lid and a cold air induction.
3) Put on a high-flow catalytic converter. (You can buy a Catco for about $50-60 from www.SummitRacing.com )
4) Put on a 3" intermediate pipe (Also available from Summit - there's an open topic right now with the part numbers and info. on that.) or a 2.75" used intermediate pipe from Z28.
5) Replace the "S-bend" after the catalytic converter with two 90 degree mandrel bends.

That does it.

thanx i didnt know how long of a burn in the flows had.
ive been reading the board for months so i know about the search function. i didnt know how to exactly word it so that i didnt have to wade through lots of posts. i have 2.5 from the cat back; shaved lid with the silencers pulled. i didnt want to get a highflow cat or run 3in. exhaust because i didnt want to kill my backpressure.

You "shouldn't" loose to much backpressure unless you put headers on. If you plan on getting, for instance, the SSM PP then go ahead and do 3 inches.

Exhaust tips with resonators are designed to get rid of the noise and mellow the sound. Pacesetter makes some good ones. Look in the current Summit catalog on page 189.
I have a 40 series single outlet Flowmaster with a dual outlet tip, and am satisfied with it.
