  • installation of my Pacesetter headers...

ok.. i got them sitting here in my room. im gonna finally get around to installing them.

would me and my friend be able to put these in ourselves??

it doesnt seem too hard. we both have A LOT OF common sense, and we are both quick learners.

i dont see it as too hard to install. it may take a day or two of solid work tho.

you think it'll be doable for two teenagers with lots of street smarts? and the right tools?

I installed mine last week. I think the hardest part was cutting the y pipe with a hack saw. You do most the work from underneath. Once the starter is out, there is plenty of room to get to the header bolts. I thought it was a pain trying to wedge the stock heat shields off of the manifolds.

People argue about which gaskets to use. I bought stock gaskets but did not use them because the ports were way to big and they would have leaked. I also did not use the header bolts that came with the kit. they seemed too short. Instead, i cut the heat shield studs off the stock bolts and resused them. Since header bolts often warp and come loose after you install them, I figured the longer stock bolts would resist this better. Plus they have been heated and cooled for 4 years, so they probably wont warp any more.

Once the headers are on, I found it impossible to change the spark plug in the #4 cylinder(passenger side middle) without removing the header. It would be in your best interest to change the plugs while the exhaust is off; unless you changed them recently.

Is the hardware that comes with the ceramic coated headers also ceramic coated? And they do come with all the hardware right? I already ordered mine, they should be here in a few weeks.

Malic - You can get to it from underneath the car right? In general are the spark plugs easier to change then with the wrap arounds? I don't care if I need to get under the car for one spark plug.

if you cant get to all the plugs with the headers on then they are junk! who wants to remove a header every time they need to change plugs?

I'm thinking he means that you can't get to it from the top of the car.

so on a 1-10 basis.. 1 being the easiest and 10 being the hardest. what do you rate this installation of the headers?
