  • Update - Problems FIXED After Pacesetter/Loudmouth Install.. Sounds even better!

I had it all installed by my mechanic since I couldn't really get anyone to help me and didn't want to risk breaking off any bolts when removing the exhaust manifolds.. It all went pretty well, but there are two main problems now.. The steering linkage (I assume that's what it is) is rubbing against the headers.. My mechanic used a grinder to file it down some, so I'll have to get him to do it a little more.. Did anyone else have this problem with the Pacesetter Headers on a 3.8? The other problem is that I'm getting a SES light.. I assume the O2 sensor behind the cat is throwing an efficiency code.. What can I do to fix this? Everything says it is emissions legal, so I just need to keep this code from coming up so I can pass inspections (not until this Spring but I want to get it taken care of)..

As far as the sound, it sounds great below about 4,50 RPMs and then it gets a little too raspy for my taste from 4500ish up to the redline.. But it doesn't sound ricey in my opinion, just a little loud and raspy.. I don't know how to describe it other than a deep, throaty rasp as opposed to a ricey rasp... I'll try to see about getting a sound clip up of it sometime in the near future.

    Thanks.

Edit: One more thing.. Performance wise I feel definate gains.. Even after the SLP CAI, I wasn't spinning tires even when brake torquing at around 2,500.. Now, if I just floor it from a stop they spin, so I'll have to learn to launch just write so that I don't lose any time spinning.. And it feels quicker on the top end too. I was glad to have definite proof, because I was taking some crap at school about how exhaust would do "absolutely no good" for my car.. I knew the people sayin it were wrong (they're ricers anyway), but I figured having some proof would be nice.

That's a very interesting feedback. Is yours black painted or coated?

My steering shaft/linkage rubs on my header also. There are some adjustments that you can make to the linkage, but I haven't tried it yet. Kinda sucks, but it isn't a big deal.

I forgot to add that I ended up getting a SES too. I couldn't get one of the O2 sensors out of the manifold, so I bought a new one, but the old O2 sensor that I reused burnt out and through a code soon after I put the headers on. I replaced it with another new one from AutoZone, and that took care of the SES.

FYI, I have the painted headers.

I have a scanner/code eraser, if you are near the philly area anytime soon, email me and I'll hook the scanner up to tell you the code(s), and have them erased too so that the ses light goes away.

The headers are ceramic coating.. So I'm hoping the rubbing doesn't damage that too much.. And hockeyman, thanks for the offer, but I'll probably go to AutoZone since they do it for free... I will be in Philly soon though, gonna try to get up to one more Phils game at the Vet.. So if I haven't gotten it scanned by then maybe I'll drop you an e-mail.

I'll probably end up getting the linkage grinded, my mechanic should do it for free since it was his mistake not to do it initially.

I gotta say, it's good to see a few others from Delaware with V6 Camaros, everytime I see one it's some old lady or something...

                  Toast, sent you an e-mail.

Yea we do. How about if we plan something for next friday night at main street in newark. Me, Ted, Jamie, Redthunder96, and Wazup158. Just imagine a 5 car line up of nothing but F-bodys V6s making a rucus on main street! :D

Something on main street sounds great, but this Friday I have Phillies tickets.. One other thing about that, if/when we do it, I wouldn't reccomend meeting at the Burger King at South Chapel/Delaware Ave (a block off main).. The cops are in there all the time Friday nights giving people a hard time for loitering as I hear it, and also since people set up races there, I heard the cops try to put undercovers in there.. Not sure how true that is, but when it comes to potentially impounding cars, better safe than sorry.. And no use getting hassled just for standing around and talking in their parking lot.. Too many ricers there anyway.

McDonalds would be good.. Now we just have to figure out when we can all make it.

I got the code read today for the SES light.. It was a low O2 reading at Bank 1, Sensor 1.. Mechanic cleared it, but it came back on the way home.. Anyone know which sensor this is? He said he'd look it up if it came back again, but I won't be able to go back until at least next Monday. I'm wondering if it's a faulty sensor or the converter isn't doing good enough.

In one of these threads. I think it is in the actual Mod reviews.. there is a step by step for installation. It says you either have to do one of two things. And one I know for sure is " Grind down the bolt! but put a nut on before so you dont damage the threads. then remowve and Well Ahh.. perfect harmony for your Headers and Sterring.
