  • It can be done

A catback can be taken out in one peice, as well as put in as one peice.

But it is not for the faint hearted. About 65-75% of the rear suspension hase to be disassembled. Which If you've changed springs and shocks in the rear before isn't a big deal.

It took me six hrs to swap my stock CB for a z28 CB with cutout. But this included 2 trips to the auto parts store for clamps and adaptors. And I still have some gremlins to work out. A clearance issue(stupid 2 peice ds) and some rattles to take care of.(I think they are related.)

It has a nice purr at idle, and I think it sounds like a gtp through the rpm range. And man is the cut cool, I have not driven around with it uncapped yet. But uncapped it sounds like my old set up but louder.

Keith, a couple of friends of mine undertook the task of removing the stock exhaust from a LS1 Z28 awhile back, the same way you did, too.

pull the panhard bar tires and the sway bar and right shock and spring and you can pull it right out of the side that is the way that I did on mine. took me right @ two hours to take it off and completely reassemble the car.

Cool I was thinking of doing it this way, my current setup is on tight and I was preparing to cut if off but I want to use it if I do not like the stock z28 setup I am putting on. The rear suspension is pretty easy to do, I have done the rear axle, shocks, and swy bar all at different times. I was thinking about tightening down my endlinks since the bushins have had a month or two to break in.

Yeah you kinda have to go in and out the passanger wheel well with the CB. I definitely took my time, and wasted my time on some things. But thats the way its goes the first time you do stuff.

Woohoo!!!! I swapped out the 2 peice drive shaft for my brother's old one peice steel ds, and fixed the cat exhaust hanger. Now all the rattles and vibrations are gone.

The 2 peice weighted in at 25 lbs, while i got 16 for the one peice.(I don't think its actually that light) The one peice was actually longer, but I had no problems installing it.

Phase one is now complete. Phase two is still in planning. Here are some pic i took tonight:
            93 TA M6 ds
            stock ds
            a pic of my cutout
