• What fits an 00 3.8 liter?

im looking for recommendations on intake and exhaust. I would like to get SLP if they make it for both intake and exhaust. (so far i've only seen the 5.7 liter items)

Also what about other ones like corsa that I dont hear any talking about.

What is your budget...if you are broke like me, i can get you a VTR intake...i make them...and for exhaust got with flow or magna, nice and cheap. But if you have good money go with a FTRA intake, a whisper lid, and for exhaust do something nice like borla or the texas rumbler(acutally pretty cheap!)

I have about 1,000$, if i need to push it, I can do about $1,200. however this is the money I had saved up for me chrome z06 wheels. (I decided the exhaust/intake is more important (since I wouldnt want to 'wear' the chromes during winter anyway))

ok, after listening to them, I'm really not into the extremely loud noise... is there an exhaust that sounds sort of quiet or similar to the stock, but has better performace than the stock? Also is it a bad idea to only upgrade intake but not exhaust?

intake wont do too much without exhaust, and same with just exhaust, you will get better gains with both cause they play off of each other. go with magnaflo, cause i hate my flowmaster, its soo loud on the inside, and sounds really ricy at around 2700-3000rpm. as far as i know, corsa only makes exhaust for 8's

I started with a 3" flowmaster american thunder system, but the interior noise was too much to handle. So I changed to a hooker muffler with the dual/ dual tips. Definite improvement. The only time it gets loud is under acceleration, then when you get up to cruising speed and let off it's not much louder than stock.

thanks guys, I kinda thought they sounded loud too in the videos that were posted here. I think I might buy the magnaflow unless anyone else wants to sway me.

does the magnaflow add any horsepower like all the other ones claim? Usually they make a big deal about it on their website but on magnaflows site they didn't mention anything.

Magnaflow actually flows pretty well, but gains between different brands of mufflers are negligable, we're talkin 1-3hp difference maybe. Otherwise your best bet is just a good muffler and get a bigger diameter i-pipe. 2.5-3 inches is the standard pretty much. That coupled with a whisperlid and a cold air kit will definatley be a good improvement over stock. There's also little free mods that you can do, removing maf screen, raising the airbox, and getting rid of the air silencer. Ive got a flowmaster 80 series, 3" i-pipe, whisper lid and the free mods i listed and I love how my flowmaster sounds. It all comes down to personal preference as far as sound goes but the mods I listed are pretty much the baseline for getting started.

Airbox on a budget:
Get K and N filter. raise (4 x 3/8" tall nuts or about 1/2" worth of washers...under box, stradling the mounting box.) the air box and/or cut out buttom of airbox...leave center spanning section that runs north/south and leave about 3/8" edge all around where you cut. This really opens up/enlarges the overall 'intake' area.
Remove air silencer. replace with 3" pvc male to male coupler. Get new screw type clamps at same time. Just the coupler alone did not seem like it was long enough so I used inserted a few more inches of 3" pvc pipe in the coupler. Your engine will sound better and breath better. You can still get something like RTRAIK in the future.
(just using 3" pvc pipe did not seem like a good fit on the airbox rubber flex coupler. That thing is about 3.5" I was worried about getting a bubble under the clamp...or coming loose.)

Next, Look up 'shaving' the airbox lid mod. If you don't want to spend 100 bucks for a lid you can remove the fins on the inside of the airbox lid to improve airflow.

You have Drive by wire throttle body. don't damage the MAF screen if you choose to remove it. You may find problems with it out and want to put it back.

do searches on my postings for a bunch of good help concerning exhaust. I got a lot of good feedback and info our cool bros. check it out.

well thanks guys, I think I'm just gonna go with a new intake lid. either the slp one (which i need confrim. that it fits) and the clear MTI. which should i go with? I like the clear one better because you can see the cool filter, but I wanted to get A slp license plate frame but didn't want to be rice without slp parts

I'm suprised nobody has mentioned the tsp rumbler. They're pretty cheap, and suppost be net better gains than the american thunder. idk, I'm pretty sure that's what I'm getting for mine. Just another option. Are you looking into headers to go along with your setup? Our stock tubulars flow pretty well, but not better than a good pair of headers

how much do headers cost? aren't they just as much as the exhaust system? I really don't wanna spend THAT much.
So I have the intake picked out, I still don't know what kind of exhaust to get. I like the sound of the stock one just fine. I don't want to be making any noise if i'm doing 70 on a city street, that will be quite loud. If you know of any exhaust's that are reatively similar in sound to stock (not just at idle) drop me the names, THX
