so have you learned enough to help him out yet, or just be mean?

a 2 1/2" flowmaster cat back will be slightly louder than stock, but still pretty tame compared to most setups. If I remember right, its about $260 through www.summittracing.com I dont like ordering through their site, but give them a call, they are very helpful over the phone.

IMHO, a magnaflow cat-back is the best buy for the money (unless you are going for a LOUD setup) since its an all stainless steel system and includes the S-bend. $300+/- search ebay, there is a seller that has a warehouse full of them that is ALWAYS listing them. some auctions include a high flow cat.

thanks, ive heard lots of good things about the magnaflow, i think i'm going to get it. the only determining factor left is the noise. on a 1-10 scale what would you rate it for noise?

I run a 3" magnaflow with headers and high flow cat. with 1 being stock and 10 being obnoxious, I would rate mine a 6.
              a 2 1/2" magnaflow on stock manifolds I would give a 3.

Go with a wisper lid and a good filter. Perhaps you can find a used one on this site. If you get the SLP or MTI lid, you will need to use flex tube to get air over to the throttle body. Look under the hood of your car, notice how our lid exists off to the right abit? Well, the 8's exit in the center, so it won't line up exactly. Maybe you should rethink your choice of intake.

I wasn't trying to be mean, I wrote that early in the morning, and I was in a bit of a ****ty mood. I just pointed him to where I got some information that helped me out.
As far as learning enough to teach other people about performance parts, no I havn't learned enough yet, because the only thing I have done to my car right now is an intake, and I wouldn't want to tell someone how well something works if i havn't done it, or seen the results for myself.
It won't be until maybe late winter, or early spring before I start adding performance parts because first I need to dish out $550 for tires, and another $300-$400 to fix my power stearing.

As far as you (00firebird), I recommend you go to a few websites like www.howstuffworks.com (to learn how certain parts of a car work/work together) and then move onto doing research on how well stuff works/ has worked on other people's cars (google might actually help for this one along with reading/searching posts on this forum). Above all, don't rush into things, you seem to be really eager to get a certain part for you car without learning about it first.

Check out some of our sponsers for your first question. As for the second, go to the hardware store and see.

I bought my whisper lid at lmperformance (I think they're a sponsor). They have been running a sale on it for like 6-8 months now. With the intake, if you get a lid (whisper), the exit on it is long enough that you can remove the air baffles, and use the short rubber flex tube that's already attached to your maf sensor. Just attach the lid to that, and the top part of your aftermarket intake is complete. After that, you can cut the bottom part (underneath where the air filter sits), out, effectively completing our "free ram air" mod. Also, after that, you can purchase an aftermarket ram air kit, like the SLP cold air kit, or the super sucker ram air kit (SSRA). That's pretty much everything that I know of that you can do to your intake, besides descreening your maf sensor (there are mixed reviews on whether or not it helps or hurts the car).

With the exhaust there are a few more options/combinations that you have available. Since you already have a cat-back system picked out, just remember what each part is. As the name implies, it replaces your entire exhaust AFTER the cat. As you move closer to the engine, the next thing you will want to look into is a high-flow cat (like Catco). I believe stock, we have 3" cats, but either way, I'd go with a 3" high-flow since the reason you're spending money on the exhaust is to free it up more (I know there's more to it than that, but this is simplified, so we're not going to get into flow characteristics, velocity, and other things like that). All that's really left to replace now are the headers/y-pipe. The three brands that I know of are CIA, RKSport, and Pace Setters. CIA headers are the most expensive (though supposedly the highest quality), Pace Setters made a bad batch once (leaking collectors) but are the cheapest, and from what I can gather, not too many people like the RKSport. That's pretty much everything that you can do, for now, to upgrade your stock intake and exhaust.

I have no personal experience with any of the parts above, except for the Whisper lid, so I'm trying not to be biased at all. Do a search or ask members what they prefer so you get an idea of what you're going to be getting before you spend your money on a part. Other than that, good luck and have fun!

i really dont want to go with the wisper lid... it looks boring to me (no offense to anyone that has it). I want to get the clear lid, but I need to know where i can get the parts to have a bendable tube. however the stock tube looks like it would be alot better for the car

right- I thought that the clear one was only made for the LS1s- so you can go to Lows and pick up some dryer hose. Even though the whisper lid isn't the greatest looking IMO (I don't care for the writing on it), it works good for what it's made to do. The stock tube is only about 3-4"s long. The rest in there is the air baffle that gets removed when you install the lid, and it pretty much mates directly up to the sensor.
