Any shop I call is like 3" is too big you will lose all your power. It sounds deep because thats just the power you're losing and it's making it sound all deep. I'm like no see I don't care I just want it done and they keep throwing prices at me like $200 for an i-pipe and like $200 for an over axel pipe.. Can somebody help me out here I want the 3" dynomax pipes for cheap and I have to find myself a shop that will do what I tell em and not sit there telling me I shouldnt do it all day.

I understand that.... When I did my flowmaster muffler I asked the guy about fabricating a 3" I pipe. He said that I would loose power and burn up O2 sensors. He wouldnt even give me an estimate. Then when I gave him my quad Trans Am tips to put one he told me that I didnt want those because they were from a trans am and everyone would laugh at me. Needless to say, when I do my 3" pipes I wont go back to him...

That's what I'm talking about. He wouldnt even give me an estimate he was all like $200 for each pipe and like $80/hr labor. Then he said "I've been in this business forever and I especially have done a lot of your type of car I should at least know what I'm talking about" In essence telling me I don't know WTF I'm talking about. So I said would you still do the work? He's like "I will do it, but you will not be happy" I just said alright thanks and hung up. Obviously I will not have my work done there. The other shops I keep calling tell me they don't make a 3" pipe for the v6 and when I say well how much is the v8 one they keep saying it wont fit. They wont even check the price. I live in moron town...

This has been driving me nuts, but I finally found all the parts I need and a shop who would not argue with my wishes.

3" Catco High Flow Catalytic Converter $50.99

                Flowmaster 80 Series 3" Single Inlet 2 1/2" Dual Outlet $79.50

                2, 45 Degree Mandrel Bent Pipes to make 1 S-Pipe $40

                3" Dynomax I-Pipe $40 Local Jockos
                3" Dynomax Over-Axel Pipe $50 Local Jockos

So around $260-$290 in parts and I found a shop that will work on it for $50/hr and they said it would not take more than an hour max of 1.5hrs so around $80 to get it installed all in all a kickass sounding $350-$380 exhaust system. Not too bad. I just hope mine sounds like TheBeast' exhaust.

That should do it for you. The key to the sound is of course the flowmaster (80 series)...no other muffler gives that amount of volume at idle or revving. The 3" helps even out the sound through the RPMs. Tell the cocky bastards at the other muffler shop to get a clue. They say people will laugh at you because you have "trans am" tips? These guys are idiots, my car as well as every other firebird with the W68 package comes stock from the factory with the oval tips also seen on newer trans ams or formulas. Anyways, enough ranting, lol. I'll get you some p/n's on the dynomax piping if you need it. I believe my flowmaster is 3" in/2.5" out

I only have 1 question remaining. On your original post you said you have a stock s-pipe. Now that stock s-pipe is 3" right? It has to be otherwise it would not make sense, but I am just double checking.

                    Thanks

you know that guy may be right (the guy you hung up on skewb). 3" in too big unless your 100% sure you're going to do nitrous. 2.75" is even pushing it. I'd say go with 2.5" piping. That's what I was told from Rich...remember that Firebird that was a rocket...ran hi 12s to low 13s. I think he knows what he's talking about.

I was planning on Nitrous and maybe that ATI Supercharger coming out next year. But with my current setup maybe a 2.5" would be better. All I have now is free ram air, definned lid with k&n air filter and blocked off air silencer. The only reason I wanted 3" was because of possible future mods and the way TheBeast' setup sounded. BTW I said thanks then hung up ;)
