Do headers replace the exhaust manifold?

Can i buy headers if i leave all other pipes such as my exhaust manifold how they are (2.25 inches)? Or do the headers replace the exhaust manifold....If i buy headers, do i have to buy anything else or can i go with just the headers. Are there different widths of header pipes?

Headers will replace the stock exhaust manifolds. You will also need a Y-pipe for them.

In my personal opinion they're not worth the money or trouble of putting them on.

But here's who makes them if you want to look into it:

No, directly after the headers is the Y-pipe, and after it is the catalytic converter.

I don't see why you're putting a resonator on.

From the catalytic converter is the intermediate pipe, then the muffler, then the tailpipes and tips as the exhaust exits the car.

oh i thought i already had a resonator on there, my bad. would i have to buy a Y pipe or do i have that already? what i need is a basic explination of exhaust from start to finish, and what headers replace. thanks.

Ok it starts in the engine bay and works its way to the rear of the car like this:

Headers, Y pipe, Cat converter, S pipe, I pipe, Muffler, Tailpipe.

Just like that. In that order starting from the engine to the rear.


No resonator. Does that help?

Yes, except for one thing: The "S-pipe" is part of the intermediate piping ("I-pipe"). There's actually no such piece as an "S-pipe"; it was a name that Magnus made up for the "S"-shaped bend in the intermediate pipe. Some aftermarket intermediate piping will come with the S-bend included (mine did), others will not (I'm told that the 3" Dynomax 2-piece intermediate pipe does not).


As for the Y-pipe: Yes you will need one to match the headers you buy. You can either buy it from whoever you get your headers from, or else have it made by your exhaust shop. (I'd recommend the first option.)

You are wrong, the s pipe isnt a name that magnus made up for the i pipe, the s pipe is the S shaped puipe at the rear of the cat where the i pipe connects to.

Nope, sorry, I'm not. There is no separate "S-pipe." It's part of the "intermediate piping." And you can ask Magnus yourself about the name, it's in one of the older threads.

Yes it is one piece but its not attached to the i pipe, the s shaped pipe is attached to the back of the cat, i dont have to aske magnus because ive changed my cat twice and i have a spare cat laying around. The s shape is not connected to the i pipe the i pipe goes over top the s shape pipe and gets clamped or welded on.

yours is probably customized. the S and the I pipes are actually 1 piece in a stock setup. no welds or clamps. just 1 piece. they are also 1 piece on most, if not all, catbacks. i have the Pacesetter and RKSport catbacks in the garage. i also have the stock one off an LT1.

Yep. Stock is one piece. I too have changed my cat, not that that means a damn thing. But to illustrate, I DO have Dynomax I-pipe waiting to go on, and it DOES includes the "S-pipe" as part of it.

Well thats messed up because my triflow had the i pipe but not an s pipe attached
