  • Is a hi-flow cat really necessary?

I will be getting headers soon and I would like to know if I should spend a lot of money on a hi-flow cat or if I should maybe invest in a electric cutout before the cat thereby having open headers at the touch of a button.

Definitely spend the money on the cutout. I know it seems as if everyone on here is replacing their cat, but you really won't see that much of a difference. Besides, I don't think its worth it because of all the problems it's been giving people.

I think a lot of the guys on here are replacing the cat because theirs are taking a dump and clogging up, which tends to happen a lot. It did to me anyway. Seeing as you have a '93 your cat's probably getting pretty rickedy under there and if you have over 300bucks to drop on headers why is it so expensive to buy a cat? You might as well just get one anyway, your going to be right there. I'd leave the cutout after the cat and put it right before the i pipe goes over the axle. Heres 3 reasons why, you should also take a look under your car.

        1. The only piping before the cat is the y-pipe collector, it'd be extremely hard to take off the collector inplace for a cutout.

        2. On that y-pipe collector an o2 sensor is in your way.

        3. It sounds like crap before the cat, you'd just waste your money because you're not gonna want to open it. It sounds a lot better after the cat, beleive me.

Remember everyone, I did not say it was impossible to do. I just said it wouldn't be worth the hassle.
