Exhaust sound will change, exhaust note will stay the same.
Whether you have 6 cylinders into 1 tube, 3 into 2, or 1 to 1 it makes no difference. You are still going to have 38.43 cubic inches per cylinder. So its going to sound the exact same.
In fact if nothing else it will sound meaner because there is less exhaust overlap. Think. What if each cylinder had its own exhaust - tractor pipes, is that going to sound bad? Hell no, it's going to be the wildest six you've ever heard.
True dual will net you a different sound but it will still carry the same pitch.

Well what about a V8 with tru duals? Think of it as two 4 cylinder engines with each their own exhaust. Sounds like it would sound teriable, but in person most tru dual V8s sound awesome. I have heard tru duals on a 3.8 and they do sound pretty good.

True duals are very difficult to get to the bumper, but it is possible. Most people just have them come off of the header and dump before the rear axle. Realistically, you can have a true dual system with dumps fabricated for $300 or less, pretty much the same price as a decent catback. It will still sound like a six, but I can't imagine that it sounds bad, plus it would be unique on a six. Also, unless you want added cost, don't bother with the cats. It's not technically legal anyways.

If you wanna do it man, go for it!
Your best bet will to do a 2.25" TRUE DUAL.
That is Magnaflow Exhaust for a V6 Stang
if you wanna do duals, i suggest an h-pipe or an x-pipe would be better, and if you wanna do true duals all the way out the back, imo waste of time/money...
I am doing true duals, i talked to several people who do custom setups and every one of them all agree i should use 2.5" pipe, xpipe, and bullets. They all also said no cats and dump it before the axle, mine shouldnt sound that bad with the cam and all

I don't think it's been done on a 3.8 camaro yet... probably wont see much power gain, but should improve the sound... go to ls1.com and ls1tech.com and search for "true dual pics" you will get lots of good ideas from there....
