  • Where is the silencer?

Complete newb when it comes to working on the actual motor here. Basically, I was hearing all this stuff about some sort of air silencer that is robbing our horsepower, and I looked under the hood and am unclear of where exactly it is. Between the throttle body and the actual box there is a large black casing ... is that it? Does anyone got a picture?

Check this pic. That black box he has his hands over (the airlid is towards the left) is the silencer. If you get a new lid like a whisper ild, you can remove the silencer. I think you can remove the silencer even with your stock lid, but youll need a rubber hose to connect your lid to the engine.

excellent. thanks much. I was thinking about a whisper lid and a K&N Filter ... this a good idea? How tough is it to install? I understand cars pretty well, but I have never really done much with them except change oil.

Yea a K&N with a whisper lid is a great combo. If you know how to change your oil in your car, you can DEFINETLY install the lid, not hard at all. It comes with instructions on how to do everything.

You don't actually have to remove your air silencer. Look at my post here: http://www.camarov6.com/cgi-bin/ulti...&f=25&t=003790

Well the airflow would be better if its removed, even if you put something in the lower half of the silencer to prevent air from going in.
