• gut the cat?

ok, what is better? should i gut catalytic converter or get a new high flow one? which is better. also how do i gut it? and what about f*ckin emmissions.

thanks

Better: No catalytic converter means no restriction which will be a better flowing exhaust.

Gutting it is just as it sounds. Knock the guts out of it so it's hollow. A lot of people weld a pipe through a gutted one so it looks like it's still there.

As far as emissions, well you're screwed there. It's one and only purpose is to eliminate pollutants. You will fail any and all emissions tests. I'm not sure about in Texas, but it's a pretty decent sized fine in Ohio running with no cat.

If you're worried about emissions then run with a high flow cat. They're definately better than stock, and you won't get a hefty ticket for not having one.

you will also trip codes if you gut the cat. there is a possibility of the high flow doing the same but its less likely. I just took my gutted cat out to put a high flow in and i dont notice any difference in performance at all.

i've had my cat gutted and sleeved for like a year now and it has never set a code...however...it does not go the same way for everybody...if you do gut the cat and get a code you can just get o2 sims from www.summitracing.com and those will take care of the code

Remember, its a FEDERAL law to screw with the catalytic converter.

Just spend the 129 bucks on a nice 3" high flow cat and be happy. I've heard a cat-less 3.4 and it sounded like crap.

You can get a Carsound high flow cat for $64.95 from Husker Performance Exhaust (shipping is like $10 or so). Cheapest I have found them.

http://www.exhaustproslinc.com/ca94se.html

You want part 94005, 94006, or 94009 depending on the size of your exhaust. I have a Rumbler so I got the 94009.
SLP CAI, K&N, Whisper Lid, 180* thermo, manual fan switch, 3.42 gears, Auburn Pro LSD, Wester\'s PCM Tuning, TSP Rumbler, High Flow Cat. Best Time: 9.909@71.58 (1/8 mile)
