I've got my '02 Firebird in storage for the winter and I would like to get my exhaust system set up b4 I bring her out again next year. So far, i've went ahead and installed Whisper lid, K&N filter, and will make my own ftra.(I guess I shouldn't call it "ftra" if i'm makin' my own; maybe call it PARA[my initials]). Anyway, I've heard some good stuff about the Rumbler catback, but still unsure if it will suit my need for sound. I probly won't change to headers, but i'm lookin' at catco hi-flo cat,& Rumbler. My ? is, will that sound decent without headers?? And what about drone inside?? I don't want it to drone while drivin' with my hunny in the car. Let me know what youse guys, & girls think. 1,000 thanx, Paul..........

I have the Rumbler with a 3" Catco.
First, the Rumbler will give a loud drone inside the car at first. Give it a few weeks and the drone inside the car will be acceptable (you can hear it but it is not annoying).
Second, the Rumbler is LOUD. It does quiet somewhat after a few weeks, but that is relative. Let me re-iterate, the Rumbler is LOUD.
Third, do not buy a CATCO! Buy a carsound. I am having my CATCO replaced tomorrow with a carsound as it is clogged up after 4-5 months. That is pretty well the story everyone will tell you. The Catco clogs up in a short amount of time.
I got my carsound for $88 shipped from:
http://www.exhaustproslinc.com/ca94se.html
You want the 94000 series (they have 2.25, 2.5, and 3"). If you get the Rumbler you will want the 3" in/out version (94009).
Yours will be cheaper because I had to pay sales tax since this place is located in Nebraska and so am I. Also, I went with a more expensive shipping option.SLP CAI, K&N, Whisper Lid, 180* thermo, manual fan switch, 3.42 gears, Auburn Pro LSD, Wester\'s PCM Tuning, TSP Rumbler, High Flow Cat. It'll drone like the Red Baron's Fokker.
Mine doesn't drone. You can hear it inside the car but it isn't annoying. Just a slight rumble.SLP CAI, K&N, Whisper Lid, 180* thermo, manual fan switch, 3.42 gears, Auburn Pro LSD, Wester\'s PCM Tuning, TSP Rumbler, High Flow Cat. Best Time: 9.909@71.58 (1/8 mile)

Good website, I like how they show pictures of all the different ones they sell. Did you get one with or without the O2 bung? And right here you tell me it drones. Half of the people with Flowmasters say that it does not drone. But what you and they all mean is that they are not annoyed by the drone.
If someone is worried about hearing the exhaust inside the car then maybe they shouldn't get an aftermarket exhaust.
I guess I don't know what people mean by "drone" just like I don't know what people mean by "rasp".
If your definition of drone is being able to hear the exhaust inside the car, then yes it drones. Personally I like it, your opinion may vary according to taste.SLP CAI, K&N, Whisper Lid, 180* thermo, manual fan switch, 3.42 gears, Auburn Pro LSD, Wester\'s PCM Tuning, TSP Rumbler, High Flow Cat. My point is that a blanket statement or even a yes/no doesn't help anyone that asks this question. It's really hard to give anyone advice on what muffler to buy on the internet. A lot of this is subjective, and essentially the only way to get this information is to take a ride in someone's car that has whatever system you are interested in.
And to answer the first question you asked of me, while I have not ridden in a car with the "Rumbler" specifically, I have ridden in a 99 that had a Dynomax bullet as it's only muffler (stock intermediate piping). It droned as much as my Flowmaster system does. Loudmouth is bound to be a level higher than either of them. Maybe there is an off chance that Rumbler cancels all the noise at all freeway speeds, but I doubt it and why I commented.
I personally don't mind hearing the exhaust when I hit the gas, but I have grown tired of intrusive noise when I am driving on the freeway for long intervals, that is why I am probably going to give Hooker a try.Matt
2000 Firebird

FullThrottleV6.com

I would adsoluetly love to hear someone elses v6 with the Rumbler; but as long as I've been on this forum(1-2yrs), I'm yet to see someone else from Milwaukee on here. I don't mind hearing the exhaust inside the cabin,(I kinda like it), just not so much that it is absolutely annoying for daily driving/road trips. I suppose all I can do at this point is buy the Rumbler, and find out for myself. I was just hoping that I wouldn't have to waste my $$$ is it is annoyingly loud. I had the Flowmaster Amer. Thunder series on my '99 Bird, but it was a bit too quiet. I know all opinions vary, and thanx for everyones thoughts.

If you change your cat at the same time you get the rumbler just be patient for a few weeks until it burns in before making any judgements.
If you stay with your stock cat it probably won't be annoying at all. Although I have only heard it with a high flow cat so I can't say for 100% certainty (sp?...feeling to lazy to look it up).
Oh yeah, in my original response I stated my CATCO was clogged and not to buy one. As I noted in a different thread it turns out the clamp had just come loose causing the weird sound and performance decrease I thought was associated with a clogged cat. So the CATCO is still doing just fine.SLP CAI, K&N, Whisper Lid, 180* thermo, manual fan switch, 3.42 gears, Auburn Pro LSD, Wester\'s PCM Tuning, TSP Rumbler, High Flow Cat.
