80 series all the way, mine sounds pretty mean for just a 6 and its not raspy down low and you could get a resonator to quiet it down and smooth it out.

Hear all of that raspy popping and rice sound? Thats what I hate about the Flowmaster. My setup has NONE of that, but it's loud as hell and can't be quieted down.

ONe thing I forgot to mention . On the FM website, it has the 80 series at a more "Aggresive" chart than the 40 (i didn't notice it when i got mine).

SO go with either 80 or AT (same, supposedly).
I'm glad i got mine, just because it isn't as common and I got the chance to hear it. BUt I just think that this car can sound a little better.

I didn't hear any rice sound. It rattled a bit up high, but it wasn't a ricey rattle. Alot of V8 fbodies have pops and rattles when you rev high also.

Also, the engine is under no load, it will sound a little different while driving. Flowmaster's website has a sound clip of a 3.8 that sounds pretty good.

Now, I've got a question for everybody. I went to bigexhaust.com and part no. 17356 is for the 93-95 3.4L and does not have a resonator. Part no. 17357 is for the 95-97 3.8 with a resonator. My question(s) is why does the 3.4 exhaust not use a resonator? and shouldn't both systems use the same hangers and everything, so if I wanted to order the system with the resonator, it should fit my 3.4L car right? I've got my exhaust narrowed down to the american thunder flowmaster or edelbrock catback and am just trying to make a final decision.

needforspeed, I think that soundclip of a 3.8 on the flowmaster website is To answer your question, the system for the 3.8 will fit your car.

HEhe. Im not Anti-Flowmaster, as a point of information, I love flowmaster. I just love it when 4 differnt F-bodys drive by with the same engine and they all sound unique, look unique and have unique drivers. Everything I try to do to my car I try to add my own personal touch to it. Ive done the FireBird Hood decal, custom style exhaust - and I would do more to my intake setup but I have to have legal stuff cause the cops here are ticket happy and the laws are harsh. So Im not saying dont go with Flowmaster , Im just saying I like originality.

P.S. I think the Flowmaster on the 3.8 sounds pretty good, but to me it reminds me of a 4 banger with a horn blowing exhaust, it makes it sound like its trying to amplify the sound of the engine, when the engine already has an awesome soudn too it. Thats why A magnaflow that is broken in sounds much better- to me than a flow.

i was just listening to the 80 series sound clip on the flowmaster web site and whoever said its is right....the clip of the 3.8 and the 5.7 are the exact same. So does anyone here have sound clips of their american thunder system that we could all take a listen too. Im also looking into Magnaflow but i have only heard one sound clip from that and from what i hear they both get about the saem power boosts. Thanks you guys.

i have the new flowmaster cat back and i was impressed with the sound. it doesnt have a really loud idle but it sounds deep from 5-5500rpm's. not raspy at all. the best sound is at about 3500. i highly recommend this exhaust, it sounds a lot better than the edelbrock cat back.
