• Pacesetter Headers

For those that installed them theirselves how much yanking and tugging did you have to do to get the headers to meet the Y pipe? I must have got the Friday afternoon special made set cuase there's no way mine are mating. On top of that the two screw holes that hold the EGR aren't threaded.

I finally got fed up with it, boxed it all up including the alt, AC, and tossed it in the car. It's going to the shop on a flatbed Monday. It's gotta be bad if I'm sending it to a shop.
If anyone gets these definitely think about having someone install them unless you have an endless supply of blood and cuss words. :)

as a matter of fact... i just installed mine today. I used 2 monkey wrenches for leverage and made those pipes meet that y pipe. it doesnt matter if u think ur gonna break them, your not.. they are thick steel. as long as they are tight to the heads you wont have a problem. Make sure that you connect the y pipe to the driver side first, then run it above the crossmember and then pry both headers inward to meet the y pipe with the other. Then put the bolts in that one. Trust me this is something you dont want a shop to do. i was quoted about 90 dollars a side. I started at 5 and ended at 1 in the morning. Took around 7-8 hours for me. I had to get new header bolts.. the thread is M8-1.25 and try for the 25mm long bolts. use a washer for a more even displacement of pressure from the bolt, and try to buy copper gaskets from napa for the headers.

After you install these things... BEWARE... there will be leaks. Start the car and listen for any pops and hisses at idle... if you rev it you can hear it more... Also.. stand back and watch the headers smoke... because the paint is going to burn off them like something is on fire. These things get SUPER hot after like 30 seconds of running.

Drive it around for one hour, then re-tighten the bolts... Then after the first day, week, and month, and the 6th month, re-tighten the bolts again. These things are the highest maintainence mod you are going to do to your car.

So far.. these things are great. I love them 100%. They increased my throttle response, and i can tell i have much more power. They also lower the tone on your exhaust and make it louder. So do the install yourself if you have the time and patitence. If not, screw it and take it to a shop.
Have fun.

When I installed mine, they bolted right in, except for the EGR holes, which weren't threaded either. Made it kinda of a pain.

I just noticed this...don't spend the 60 bucks on the 'Tornado Fuel Saver.' You are better off without it.

me and TealV6 installed mine, we knew the egr needed to be threaded =) made that easier. As for them not fitting, the y fit perfect onto the headers, BUT, the y did not want to go on to the cat, it had to be custom bent to fit right.

hmm... so you need a custom Y-pipe made?

how much does that cost about? Lets say in 3in. form? 2.75 in.?

Well, no need for a Y pipe now. With a lot of pushing pulling tugging, jacks, etc I managed to get it to fit. It still goes tot he shop though cause I'm not mesing with it anymore :) While it's there than can do my I pipe as well.
