  • What's this noise?

I hear this noise under the hood that is sort of a whining sound. It only happens when I accelerate. It does get too loud, not annoying or anything, just something I've never heard before from an engine. Keep in mind I've only had this car for three weeks and I noticed the noise right away when I test drove it. I just figured it was something with the air intake. Am I right?

I can hear a noise like that if the radio is off. I have no idea what it is, but mine has been doing it since it was new.

More than likely it's your belt. My gatorback makes a whining noise when I accelerate and from what I understand that's pretty typical of gatorbacks. Personally I think it sounds kinda neat.

Well it sounds like this is pretty normal. Thanks for the posts everyone. I agree with marvin and 00firebird it sounds kinda cool. I may go ahead and tighten my belts and see if anything changes. I'll let you all know.

Mine makes that noise too. I thought it was the belt, so I changed it... and it's still there. Guess it's normal...

Next time I ride in my friend's Camaro, I'll listen for it.

                      I get it too.
                      Check your Alternator!
Mine's on it's way out. I can tell, because if i'm sitting stationary in traffic, the Voltmeter on the dash dips down into the red.

hmm. On some model cars its probably the throttlebody. On my moms Impala it does the same thing because the throttlebody is actually computer/motor controlled and not a drive-by-wire setup where its a throttlecable connected to the pedal ;) I notice most people who complain are in 99+ cars which I hear are equipped with them.

SWEET! I'm going dragging tomorrow then. :D

Antman. I will check my alternator. It was one of my other first guesses. But my volt meter is just fine. Hardly any movement, but worth a check.

Are there any intake mods that would make this sort of sound? Maybe something has been added to this car that I am unaware of?
