• New muffler

My dynomax ultraflo came in today and I am excited. I already have my pacesetter headers. Now all I need are my pipes, a 3in catco and maybe a dynomax bullet and I will take it all to the shop to be installed. I do however have a question. Since the ultraflo is a glass packed muffler will I still get the same ricey sound at high revs without the bullet.

I would say that if it does get ricey switch to a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler. The Super Turbo does not flow as well as the Ultra Flow and is a little quieter. The Super Turbo is fiberglass matted for sound control, so you should not need a resonator with it. I would say to clamp your muffler to your I-pipe and tailpipes instead of welding it so you can change out the muffler easily if you want to. Also the Super Turbo muffler will only be about $60, so it will not be a big loss if you don't like it. If you want a little more performance, go with the Ultra Flow, if you care more about sound and the Ultra Flow sounds ricey and you want to try to eliminate some of it, try the Super Turbo. I can't guarantee you, but I would say the Super Turbo will be less ricey than the Ultra Flow.

Also, revving will tend to sound worse than when the car is under load. Your new set-up might pop and continue to change in sound a little bit for a while so don't just conclude that you hate your set-up right after you install it. Give it 500 miles or so to burn in. By then it should sound close to how it will be from then on. However, if you like it right after you install it, it only gets better

I don't have a bad rasp from my ultraflo, sounds a lot better than many of the clips I hear posted (wish I could post my own).

I'd advise you to get a quality cat like a carsound though, since the catco probably will cause it to sound worse.

And yeah, all sixes sound bad free revving, they need to be in gear to sound decent.

since you have a 96, I'd say get a carsound/magnaflow OBD II compatable converter. That's what I'm planning on doing. I am not sure but I don't think the catco's are OBD II compatable so with the OBD II carsound/magnaflow you also might have less of a chance getting an SES light but I am not sure of that. Don't really know what makes a cat OBD II compatable, although I would like to know the difference, so this whole post could just be BS. I would really like to know how their new line of cat's are OBD II compatable and what makes them OBD II compatable as opposed to everyone else's cats, but from the e-mail they sent me it sounded like I shouldn't have a problem, although they could also be BSing me just so I believe them and buy it.
