A cutout warping exhaust valves??? Maybe one out of a 10 million. The best bet is to get a real catback, as the stock muffler is a BIG restriction in the exhaust line. But, for those needing a cheaper fix, a cutout makes for nice gains over the stock exhaust. I ran one on my car for a year (right before the stock muffler), and had nice results from it. Before the cat, on stock manifolds, sound horrible IMO. I would only ever use that for track use. Right before the muffler still helps alot, and doesn't kill your ears quite as bad.

Hehe sissy =) Real men use manuals and open headers , at LEAST precat cutouts ;)
Although I have to agree open stock manifolds is just a hideous sound.

So putting the cut-out before the cat makes it sound ragidy? I'm trying 2 be sure before I spend my money and be mad, hahahahaha.

Before the cat is the loudest and "worst" sounding, but most power. If your getting a cutout for sound slap yourself, if your getting it for power and don't mind maybe not passing inspection put it before the cat.

could always put on two cutouts, one before the cat and one after amd just open whichever one u feel like, more power or louder sound, lol

again, warping valves? lol. think before you speak.

cutouts in general you lose some torque, but gain more HP. good for some mph in the 1/4, and overall the car will be slightly faster.

the reason turbo cars see so MUCH gain w/ open exhaust or cutouts is because with any FI car, you want as little backpressure as possible.

u might loose 1 lb of tq thats it and gain up to 5-10 at the wheels...depending on how restictive ur current one is

You gain torque and horsepower. The only difference is your torque curve shifts up a about 500rpm I have the dyno to prove it.

No reason to do this. The precat cutout is louder and more powerful. Its downside is it may not pass inspection thus having it and the other one would be UTTERLY worthless.

ok I just got my pacesetter headers installed, and theres a shootout coming up this saturday. Anyone think I should get a cut out? One of the guys i'm competing with in the shootout has a 96 v6 camaro with a stick who runs 15's and my best time ever is a 16 flat. Hes got a cold air kit and open headers with 3.23 gears and no LSD. This guys kills me everytime even with the mods that I got. Haven't run him with my headers though. Anyone think that a cutout will help me beat him?

yea a cutout will help if it makes u run open headers.

So it would be best to get some good headers and all the rest of my exhaust system before I get the cut-out for best results?

Ok lets go over this again. Cutout will negate all of your exhaust except headers/manifolds. So whats the point of an awesome exhaust system after the cutout? For best performance. Get headers , then cutout, then cat then exhaust that you like the tone of performance doesn't exactly matter anymore. Anytime you want to race open the cutout and go for it. If you want to be legal put the cutout after your cat, if you don't care put it before the cat (THIS IS THE ONLY FACTOR TO CONSIDER). You will loose some degree of low end torque but it will be replaced by higher peak horsepower and higher peak torque (basically shift your torque curve up 500rpm) Any other questions?
