  • ripped out that damn air silencer....

...and replaced it with some high-temp ducting. i drilled a hole in the airbox so the IAT sensor could go into it, and secured it with some rubber grommets. i also took some silicone sealant, cuz the hole i drilled was a little too big for the sensor, and filled in the spaces. not bad, took me like 20 minutes to a 1/2 hour to do, most of that was screwing and unscrewing the clamps on the hoses.

i took a lil test drive, and i was very surprised. pulls harder, and it sounds awesome! there was a HUGE difference in sound, both deeper and louder. i was actually laughing as i drove it cuz i liked the way it sounded. i used 4" ducting, perfect fit over the TB. I have like 18 feet of the ducting left, so if 9 people wanna do this, i'll send you 2 feet of ducting and some grommets to hold the IAT sensor. just email me about it, and i'll try and set something up.

well, the ducting only came in 20-foot sections...it wasn't like i could buy only the 2 feet that i used. i figure some other people will wanna try it, so i can just sell the materials and step-by-step instructions. not a bad way of using the remaining stuff.

yeah, i used a 3" pvc cupling on mine, deffinate difference in throttle response and more intake noise (but in a good way). ive had it on for about a year now with no melting or any other problems.

Hey, I have heard about this mod and I am very interested. I do have some questions though. Did you remove everything between the airlid and the TB? Also, did you you have to bend the tubing to get it to fit onto the oval shaped airbox lid output in the back? And what did you use to clamp it onto the the TB and lid? If you could answer these questions I would be very interested in some of your tubing.

well i used the stock rubber flex tubes so i could keep the sensor mounted in the stock location and have less work to do. then i just forced the 3" cupling into the oval rubber on the one side and then into the other side (its easeir to do this if you take the airbox lid and the rubber tubing, from both sides of the silencer, off the car and put the pvc inbetween it and then reinstall it all). then just use hose clamps to tighten the rubber to the pvc. its really easy, took me like 5 minutes.

the pre-'99 cars can't do this, because the throttle body is at an angle. the PVC won't work. everything from the airbox to the TB must be removed and tossed.

Bunz, i had to bend the airbox side of the ducting to get it to fit on the airbox opening. not very hard to do. i bought some pipe clamps (they screw on and off) to hold the ducting onto the airbox and TB. i'll throw in two of these with the ducting, grommets, and instructions, for those who are interested.
